The Senate elected Alan Peter Cayetano as the new Senate president on Monday, May 11, 2026.
In a 13-9-2 vote, the chamber replaced Sen. Vicente Sotto III, moments before the House of Representatives impeached Vice President Sara Duterte later the same day.
The Senate is expected to convene as an impeachment court if the complaint advances.
