EMPOWERING FRONTLINE PERSONNEL THROUGH BASIC LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING
The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit Southwestern Mindanao successfully facilitated a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for the personnel of the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group Southwestern Mindanao (MEPERG-SWM) on 25โ26 March 2026 at the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) Annex, Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City.
The training aimed to improve participants emergency response skills by teaching essential life-saving techniques, including CPR, AED use, and management of airway obstruction. It combined lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on simulations to strengthen practical understanding.
The NSSUโSWM continues to uphold its commitment to safety, operational readiness, and the delivery of life-saving interventions in support of maritime operations.

The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit Southwestern Mindanao successfully conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) Training to the personnel of the Coast Guard Human Resources Management Unit Southwestern Mindanao (HRMU-SWM), Coast Guard Finance Unit Southwestern Mindanao (FSU-SWM), and Civil Relations Group Southwestern Mindanao (CRG-SWM) held on 10โ11 March 2026 at the Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) Annex, Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City.
The activity aimed to enhance personnel competence in responding to medical emergencies by providing essential life-saving knowledge and skills. The training included CPR, proper use of the AED, and management of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on simulations to improve practical skills and emergency preparedness.
The NSSU SWM steadfastly promotes safety, operational preparedness, and lifesaving capability for maritime missions.

The Coast Guard Nursing Service Sub-Unit Southwestern Mindanao successfully conducted Basic Life Support (BLS) Training to the personnel of Coast Guard Medical Station Southwestern Mindanao (MEDS-SWM) and Coast Guard Logistics and Finance Management Center Southwestern Mindanao (LFMC-SWM) from 03โ06 March 2026 at Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao (CGDSWM) Annex in Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City.
The activity aimed to strengthen the personnel ability to respond to medical emergencies by providing them with essential life-saving knowledge and skills. The training covered Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), proper use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and management of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO). Through lectures, practical demonstrations, and hands-on simulations, participants gained valuable experience in delivering timely and effective emergency care.
This initiative reflects the Philippine Coast Guardโs continuous commitment to protecting lives, ensuring maritime safety, and maintaining a high level of operational readiness among its personnel.

The Coast Guard Nursing Service โ Southwestern Mindanao, and Coast Guard Nursing Service RTC Zamboanga together with the Coast Guard Medical Station โ Southwestern Mindanao rendered necessary medical assistance to the victims and survivors of the incident involving the sunken M/V Trisha Kerstin 3.
Rescue operations were carried out relentlessly, providing immediate medical care to survivors, while subsequent operations involved the recovery of those who tragically lost their lives. Throughout the entire operation, the team consistently demonstrated compassion, and efficiency, ensuring the continuous delivery of essential services to those in need.
In addition, the team also assisted in transporting stranded individuals and delivering essential relief supplies to the victims of the fire incident in Bongao Tawi-Tawi, further extending humanitarian support to affected communities.

๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐: The Philippine Coast Guard achieved another significant milestone with the Joint Inauguration of the PCG Animal Bite Treatment Center (PCG-ABTC), PCG Screening Drug Testing Laboratory, and PCG Diabetes Wellness Center on 09 December 2025 at 53 M.L. Quezon St., New Lower Bicutan, Taguig City.
The ceremony was led by ADMIRAL RONNIE GIL L GAVAN PCG, Commandant, Philippine Coast Guard, together with COMMODORE LYSAMYRA MARIE N GAVAN PCG, The Chief Nurse, Philippine Coast Guard. Also present were REAR ADMIRAL ALLEN J DALANGIN PCG, Coast Guard Health Service Administrator, who expressed strong support for the continuous enhancement of PCGโs healthcare capabilities.
The establishment of these facilities marks a major advancement in the PCGโs medical capability. The PCG Animal Bite Treatment Center will provide timely, lifesaving rabies management, especially crucial for PCG K9 unit personnel and those deployed in high-risk environments. The PCG Screening Drug Testing Laboratory strengthens the organizationโs commitment to discipline, integrity, and operational preparedness through efficient and reliable testing services. Meanwhile, the Diabetes Wellness Center promotes early detection, lifestyle management, and continuous monitoring to support the long-term health of PCG personnel.
With these new healthcare facilities in place, the PCG continues to elevate its support systems, ensuring that every personnel remains protected, healthy, and mission-ready as they fulfill their duty to serve the nation.
