𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗢𝗙𝗪 𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗 𝗜𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗫, 𝗦𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡 𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗦𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗢𝗙𝗪𝗦

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi can soon look forward to dedicated, quality healthcare services as the Department of Migrant Workers - Regional Office IX, in partnership with the Department of Health - Zamboanga Peninsula Center for Health and Development, Zamboanga City Medical Center, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration - Regional Welfare Office IX, prepares to open a dedicated OFW Ward at ZCMC in the coming weeks.

In a significant step toward strengthening health and welfare services for migrant workers, DMW Regional Director Gay Iris TS. Tangcalagan personally visited ZCMC and met with Medical Center Chief II Dr. Afdal Y. Kunting to discuss the final preparations, technical requirements, and operational details of the soon-to-open facility.

The meeting was followed by an ocular inspection of the ward, where officials assessed the readiness of the facility and discussed the range of services that will be made available exclusively to OFWs.

Once operational, the OFW Ward will provide free healthcare services and hospital accommodations for qualified OFWs suffering from illnesses, ensuring that modern and accessible medical care is readily available to migrant workers who have dedicated their lives to supporting their families and contributing to national development.

Dr. Kunting highlighted the importance of recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of Filipino migrant workers by ensuring access to quality healthcare services and modern medical facilities.

Regional Director Tangcalagan expressed gratitude for the support to this initiative and emphasized the commitment of government agencies to protect and promote the welfare of OFWs both during their employment overseas and upon their return to the country.

With final preparations now underway, the facility is expected to become operational within the next few weeks, marking another milestone in the delivery of dedicated and compassionate services for OFWs in the region.

In a resounding success for local jobseekers, the Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office IX (DMW-IX) actively participated in the highly anticipated “PESO FAIR: Connecting You to Opportunities” held on May 29, 2026, at the KCC Convention Center, KCC Mall de Zamboanga.

The event, organized by the City Government of Zamboanga through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), saw DMW-IX providing valuable on-site services as part of the One-Stop-Shop initiative. This collaboration delivered comprehensive support to thousands of eager jobseekers, particularly those aspiring for rewarding overseas employment opportunities. True to its commitment to safe and orderly migration, DMW-IX facilitated the participation of six reputable licensed Private Recruitment Agencies (PRAs), which collectively presented an impressive total of 18,326 job orders across various in-demand positions worldwide.

The participating PRAs that made this milestone possible were: Camox Philippines Inc., Henson International Human Resources Inc., Intelliserv Global Resources Inc., Joseline International Manpower Corporation, SMC Manpower Agency, and East West Placement Center Inc.

This powerful partnership between DMW-IX and the Zamboanga City PESO not only opened doors to legitimate global employment opportunities but also reinforced the government’s dedication to empowering Filipino workers with quality jobs while ensuring their rights and welfare are strongly protected. The overwhelming number of job orders reflects the strong demand for Zamboangueño talent in the international labor market and marks a significant step toward reducing local unemployment through dignified overseas employment.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment Region 9 (DOLE 9) co-chaired by the Department of Migrant Workers Region 9 (DMW 9), conducted the first regular meeting of the One-Stop Shop Processing Center (OSSPC) Inter-Agency Taskforce on May 19, 2026, at Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City, with 40 participants from various member line-agencies.

The meeting centered on urgent preparations for the anticipated arrival of approximately 5,000 Returning Filipinos from Sabah (REFS) who may be affected by the temporary suspension of operations of the sole privately owned vessel servicing the Sandakan–Zamboanga City route.
