With PPP and PDM are came together to oust Pakistan’s sitting Prime Minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence motion. Will the opposition succeed in its venture or fail like previous attempts of no-confidence?
This is not the first time a no-confidence motion has been moved by the opposition in the parliament against Imran Khan. There is a history of no-confidence motions against two prime ministers. But all the efforts of no-confidence are failed in the past.
In 1989, a no-confidence motion was moved in the parliament against PM Benazir Bhutto and failed by 12 votes. 5 members got surprisingly absent from the parliament on the day of voting. In the house of 237 members, 119 members needed to make a no-confidence against Benazir Bhutto but only 107 votes were cast against her. That’s how BB’s Govt. survived the No-confidence motion.
Next, in 2006 a 2nd no-confidence motion was moved by the opposition against that time’s Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. Again the opposition failed to get the 172 votes out of 342 members of the National Assembly against the sitting Prime Minister.
Now, today’s opposition also has moved a third no-confidence in the history of parliament and claim to have more than 172 votes actually needed to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan. This time the situation looks dire for the sitting Prime Minister because his own parliamentarians are taking the opposition’s side to oust Imran Khan.
Let’s wait and watch that history repeats itself, or a new history will be written by this motion.
