πŸ“’ Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), under the framework of SESRIC, has formally commenced the two-day virtual Training Course on Labour Statistics on 20-21 May 2026.
The training programme aims to strengthen the technical capacity of participants in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting labour statistics in line with international standards and recommendations of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS).
The course covers important areas including:
βœ… Labour Force Survey (LFS) methodology and sampling techniques
βœ… Employment, unemployment, and underemployment statistics
βœ… Formal and informal employment measurement
βœ… Adoption of 19th and 21st ICLS recommendations
βœ… Transition from ICSE-1993 to ICSE-2018
βœ… Digital platform employment and gig economy measurement
βœ… Unpaid domestic and care work statistics
βœ… Emerging labour market challenges and policy relevance
The sessions are being conducted by experts from the Labour Force Survey team of PBS under the supervision of Dr. Naeem uz Zafar(SI), Chief Statistician.
This initiative reflects PBS commitment to strengthening official labour statistics systems and promoting regional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and evidence-based policymaking.

The Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement (PSLM) District Survey 2026–27 marks the 2nd fully digital and 8th district-level survey in the PSLM series being conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Since its inception, seven rounds of the PSLM District Survey have successfully been completed during:

The survey provides estimates representative at the National, Provincial, and District levels, serving as a vital source for evidence-based planning and policy formulation.

Key Importance of PSLM 2026–27

πŸ”Ή Plays a central role in monitoring and tracking progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
πŸ”Ή Out of 62 SDG indicators reported by PBS, 21 indicators are generated through PSLM
πŸ”Ή Provides data for the calculation of the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI)

New Features in PSLM 2026–27

This round introduces significant new dimensions including:
βœ… Youth Development Index (YDI) β€” for the first time ever, specialized tools and dedicated modules will be used to collect comprehensive youth-related data to support evidence-based youth development policies
βœ… Dedicated data collection on Chronic Diseases
βœ… Enhanced integrated digital data systems

To ensure high-quality and reliable data collection, nationwide training for field operations has already commenced.

πŸ”Ή Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has officially launched the Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024–25 reports for Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s national statistical system.
πŸ”Ή HIES 2024–25 is the first-ever fully digital Household Integrated Economic Survey conducted Nation-wide and in AJK & GB following the Digital Population and Housing Census 2023.
πŸ”Ή The survey was conducted through quarterly rounds using a fully integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for digital data collection, task management, and real-time monitoring, enhancing transparency, efficiency, and data quality.
πŸ”Ή The survey covered 32,814 households and generated reliable regional-level estimates to support evidence-based planning and policymaking.
