ڈیپارٹمنٹ آف لائبریریز، اسلام آباد کے زیرِ اہتمام مرحوم مشاہد حسین کی یاد میں تعزیتی ریفرنس منعقد کیا گیا، جس میں اسلام آباد اور راولپنڈی کے LIS پیشہ ور افراد نے شرکت کی۔ اس موقع پر مرحوم کی علمی و پیشہ ورانہ خدمات، خصوصاً PIMS اور پاکستان لائبریری ایسوسی ایشن میں ان کے نمایاں کردار کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کیا گیا۔ شرکاء نے مرحوم کے درجات کی بلندی، مغفرت اور لواحقین کے لیے صبرِ جمیل کی دعا کی۔ مرحوم ایک مخلص رہنما اور قابلِ احترام پیشہ ور کی حیثیت سے ہمیشہ یاد رکھے جائیں گے۔

All LIS professionals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are requested to attend the Condolence Reference being organized by the Department of Libraries, ICT (H-09, Islamabad) in memory of Late Mushahid Hussain on 02:30 PM, Friday, January 09, 2026. Born on 12 December 1954 in Rawalpindi, son of Mazahir Hussain, he received his early education in Jhang, completed Matric and Bachelor’s from Sargodha, and earned his MLISc from Quetta, Balochistan, along with an MA in History. During his distinguished career, he served institutions including Army Apprentice School Murree, PTV, Islamic University, Prices Commission, and most notably PIMS (1988–2014), from where he retired after 26 years of exemplary service. He also held key leadership positions in the Pakistan Library Association, Federal Branch, serving as Secretary, President, and in other senior roles. The LIS community has lost a sincere mentor and visionary professional leader. Let us come together to honor his legacy and pray for his maghfirah. كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ — “Every soul shall taste death.” May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and patience to his family. Ameen.

محمد ارشد، ڈائریکٹر جنرل، محکمۂ لائبریریز، اسلام آباد کی ہدایات پر یومِ قائداعظم کے موقع پر اسلام آباد پبلک لائبریری میں ایک روزہ سیمینار بعنوان “قائداعظم کا نظریہ اور جدید پاکستان میں اس کی معنویت: تاریخی و فکری تناظر” کامیابی سے منعقد کیا گیا۔ اس موقع پر ڈائریکٹر جنرل نے اپنے ابتدائی کلمات میں قائداعظم محمد علی جناحؒ کے فکری وژن، اصولی قیادت اور قومی تشکیل میں ان کے تاریخی کردار پر روشنی ڈالتے ہوئے اس بات پر زور دیا کہ نوجوان نسل کو قائداعظم کے افکار سے روشناس کرانا وقت کی اہم ضرورت ہے۔ سیمینار میں معزز مقررین جن میں مسٹر اشرف انصاری، پروفیسر ڈاکٹر زیڈ اے قریشی، ڈاکٹر شہزاد قیصر اور پروفیسر ڈاکٹر عدنان سرور شامل تھے، نے قائداعظمؒ کی جدوجہد، شخصیت، پیغام اور عصرِ حاضر میں اس کی معنویت پر سیر حاصل گفتگو کی، جبکہ معروف شاعر جناب عمیر علی انجم نے منتخب کلام پیش کیا۔ اختتام پر پروفیسر ڈاکٹر زیڈ اے قریشی کی جانب سے معزز مقررین میں قرآنِ پاک کے نسخے بطور تحفہ تقسیم کیے گئے۔

In connection with Quaid-e-Azam Day, on the direction of Muhammad Arshad, Director General, Department of Libraries Islamabad is organizing a one-day seminar titled “Quaid-e-Azam’s Ideology and Its Relevance for Modern Pakistan: Historical and Intellectual Perspective,” along with a three-day book exhibition. The seminar aims to highlight Quaid-e-Azam’s vision, principles, and intellectual legacy, while the book exhibition will feature books on Quaid-e-Azam, the Pakistan Movement, history of Pakistan, and biographies of national leaders. Library users, students, and researchers are encouraged to participate.

On Day Two of the training workshop “Transforming Libraries through E-Library Solutions,” participants benefited from three insightful sessions. Mr. Muhammad Asim presented on E-Library Software: Tools, Features, and Implementation for Modern Libraries, followed by Mr. Abdul Raziq’s informative talk on Digitization and Preservation of Library Collections: Strategies, Tools, and Best Practices. Ms. Samia Rasheed concluded the technical sessions with her presentation on E-Libraries vs. Traditional Libraries: Bridging the Gap Between Print and Digital. In his concluding remarks, Mr. Sheikh M. Arshad (Director General, Department of Libraries) appreciated the active participation of the staff, emphasized the importance of continuous digital capacity building, and reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to modernizing library services through innovative technologies. Here are a few glimpses from Day Two.

The Department of Libraries Islamabad organized a two-day workshop titled “Transforming Libraries through E-Library Solutions: A Capacity Building Workshop” on 25–26 November 2025 to enhance the capacity of its professional and para-professional staff. Day one featured an inspiring address by Sheikh M. Arshad (Director General) on navigating the digital shift in the library profession through E-Libraries and technology. This was followed by an informative session by Mr. Siddiq ur Rehman on the concepts and components of E-Libraries, and a thoughtful presentation by Mr. Ghulam Abbas highlighting the key advantages and limitations of E-Library systems. Here are a few glimpses from Day One of the workshop.

Model Children Library organized a special Book Reading Session in celebration of Iqbal Day. During the event, children delivered speeches and recited the inspiring poems of Allama Iqbal. They also explored a variety of books and created beautiful bookmarks for their favourite titles. The young participants thoroughly enjoyed the activities and enthusiastically shared their experiences. Here are a few glimpses from the event.
