UNITY, GRATITUDE AND HARMONY: HIGH COMMISSIONER MARKS EID UL FITR WITH HEARTFELT ADDRESS IN PAKISTAN
The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, H.E. Amb. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, delivered a warm and meaningful Eid ul Fitr address to Home-Based Staff and Locally Recruited Staff of the High Commission. The gathering marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan with a spirit of unity, reflection, and gratitude, as the High Commission prepares to celebrate Eid ul Fitr tomorrow here in Islamabad.
In his remarks, H.E. Amb. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan extended heartfelt Eid greetings to all members of the High Commission, acknowledging their dedication and contributions throughout the year. He emphasized that Eid ul Fitr is not only a celebration but also a moment to reflect on the spiritual journey of Ramadan—a time that instills patience, humility, and compassion.
He highlighted the importance of gratitude, encouraging all staff to appreciate both personal and professional blessings. Reflecting on the lessons of Ramadan, he urged everyone to carry forward the values of kindness, discipline, and empathy into their daily lives and work environment.
The High Commissioner also underscored the importance of maintaining a harmonious and respectful workplace, noting that unity and mutual understanding are key to strengthening the mission’s success. He reminded attendees that as representatives of Malaysia abroad, they play an important role in reflecting the nation’s identity as a peaceful, respectful, and inclusive country.
In light of ongoing challenges faced in various parts of the world, he stressed that peace is something Malaysians deeply cherish and must continue to protect. He encouraged everyone to embody these values and contribute positively to both the workplace and the wider community.
As a gesture of goodwill and appreciation, H.E. Amb. Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan also extended Eid food packages to all locally recruited staff, reflecting the spirit of sharing and care that defines the festive season.
Extending the festive spirit beyond the High Commission, the High Commissioner also conveyed sincere Eid ul Fitr greetings to the Government of Pakistan and its people, expressing appreciation for the warm relations and hospitality extended to Malaysia. He wished for continued friendship, prosperity, and peace between the two nations.
In closing, he once again extended his best wishes to all and shared a traditional Malaysian greeting: “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin,” a phrase that conveys warm Eid greetings while seeking forgiveness for any wrongdoings, both seen and unseen, in the spirit of reconciliation and renewal.

HIGH COMMISSIONER RECEIVES COURTESY CALL FROM MPA AMINA HASSAN SHEIKH
On Thursday, 12 March 2026, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan received Ms. Amina Hassan Sheikh, Member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, for a courtesy call at the High Commission in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both sides held a constructive exchange on strengthening bilateral engagement, particularly in the areas of youth cooperation, parliamentary linkages and economic collaboration. Ms. Sheikh highlighted the importance of fostering closer connections between young parliamentarians of Malaysia and Pakistan, noting that such engagement could facilitate knowledge-sharing, leadership development and stronger people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The discussion also touched on the broader economic landscape and current developments in Pakistan, with both sides exchanging views on opportunities to further enhance cooperation and engagement between the two nations.
In this regard, Ms. Sheikh proposed the organisation of a roundtable meeting involving Members of the Punjab Assembly and the ASEAN Heads of Mission in Islamabad. The proposed session would serve as a platform to promote dialogue on youth engagement, parliamentary collaboration and broader regional cooperation between ASEAN and Pakistan.
The High Commissioner welcomed the proposal and expressed appreciation for the initiative to strengthen engagement with ASEAN missions in Islamabad. He noted that Malaysia looks forward to exploring potential avenues of collaboration with the Punjab Assembly, particularly in areas that support youth engagement, governance exchanges and institutional linkages.

A VISIT AND DISTRIBUTION OF ZAKAT FITRAH TO THE MADRASAH ASHRAF-UL-ULOOM
On Thursday, 12 March 2026, Kelab STMI undertook a visit to Madrasah Ashraf-Ul-Uloom, Islamabad. The visit was led by Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan and accompanied by the President of Kelab STMI as well as other officers of the High Commission.
Upon arrival, Ambassador Dato’ Azhar was received by Moulana Abdul Ghuffar Abbasi, Principal of Madrasah and the staff. During the meeting, Moulana Abdul Ghuffar Abbasi briefed the High Commissioner about the Madrasah and other activities being held in Madrasah. Madrasah Ashraf-Ul-Uloom was established in 1925. Thousands of students have completed their religious studies from this Madrasah and are also performing their duties in different madrasahs/mosques in Islamabad and other cities.
During the visit, Ambassador Dato’ Azhar also took the opportunity to deliver zakat fitrah to the management of the Madrasah.

COLLECTION OF ZAKAT FITRAH
On Thursday, 12 March 2026, Kelab STMI organised the collection of zakat fitrah event at the High Commission of Malaysia, Islamabad. The event was attended by Ambassador Dato’ Azhar Mazlan, Home-based Staff as well as Locally Recruited Staff. The event commenced with a briefing by Mr. Khairul Amri Bin Kamarudin, President of Kelab STMI, followed by the speech of Ambassador Dato’ Azhar.
In his speech, Ambassador Dato’ Azhar expressed his gratitude to Kelab STMI for organising the event during the holy month of Ramadan, highlighting the significance of this auspicious time for Muslims worldwide. He also emphasised the importance of reflecting on the teachings of the Quran and applying its principles of compassion, generosity, and unity in both personal and professional endeavours. Ambassador Dato’ Azhar encouraged everyone to embrace the values of Islam, such as humility and service to others, as they contribute to a more harmonious and productive work environment.

PREPARATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF BUBUR LAMBUK
On Wednesday, 11 March 2026, Kelab STMI in collaboration with PERWAKILAN Islamabad held a “Bubur Lambuk” programme in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan. The programme aimed to celebrate the spirit of togetherness among Home-Based Staff (HBS) and Locally Recruited Staff (LRS), apart from observing the true spirit of giving during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Bubur lambuk is a savory rice porridge that is often prepared and shared during the holy month of Ramadan. This program aimed not only to showcase the rich culinary heritage of Malaysia but also to strengthen the bonds among the staff of the Malaysian High Commission.
At the end of programme, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan distributed the specially prepared bubur lambuk to the HBS and LRS, as well as to members of the diplomatic corps in the diplomatic enclave. This act of sharing food was a symbolic gesture of goodwill and camaraderie, reflecting the core values of unity, hospitality, and cultural exchange.

MALAYSIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER PARTICIPATES IN INAUGURAL ASEAN HEADS OF MISSION MEETING UNDER INDONESIA’S ASEAN COMMITTEE IN ISLAMABAD (ACI) CHAIRMANSHIP
On 4 March 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, attended the first ASEAN Heads of Mission (HOMs) meeting chaired by Indonesia in its capacity as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI). The meeting was led by His Excellency Chandra Warsenanto Sukotjo, Ambassador of Indonesia to Pakistan, who currently holds the ACI chairmanship for the first half of 2026.
The meeting focused on the proposed programme for the year and strategies to enhance ASEAN’s presence and visibility in Pakistan. Discussions highlighted closer engagement across diplomatic, cultural, and economic initiatives, aiming to showcase ASEAN as a united and dynamic regional bloc within Pakistan.
Following the meeting, the Heads of Mission joined an Iftar dinner, offering an informal setting to discuss regional cooperation and strengthen personal and professional ties among ASEAN representatives.
Malaysia remains committed to supporting ASEAN’s collaborative efforts in Pakistan and continues to support Indonesia’s leadership in its chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad, contributing to initiatives that foster regional understanding, partnership, and greater cooperation across diplomatic and socio‑economic sectors.

HIGH COMMISSIONER OF MALAYSIA SIGNS CONDOLENCE BOOK ON THE DEMISE OF IRAN’S SUPREME LEADER
On 4 March 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, signed the Book of Condolence at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Islamabad following the passing of Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ambassador Azhar conveyed Malaysia’s deepest condolences and sympathies to the Government and people of Iran during this solemn moment of national mourning.
He acknowledged the significant role played by the late Supreme Leader in shaping Iran’s political direction and regional posture over several decades.
In closing, he offered sincere prayers for peace and fortitude for the Government and people of Iran.

HIGH COMMISSIONER OF MALAYSIA SIGNS CONDOLENCE BOOK ON THE DEMISE OF FORMER INDONESIAN VICE PRESIDENT
On 3 March 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, signed the Book of Condolence at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Islamabad following the passing of His Excellency Try Sutrisno, former Vice President of the Indonesia.
During the visit, Ambassador Azhar expressed his deepest condolences and conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family as well as to the Government and people of Indonesia. He noted that the late Vice President was a devoted patriot and distinguished statesman whose contributions to Indonesia’s stability and development will be remembered with great respect.
The High Commissioner also reaffirmed Malaysia’s solidarity with Indonesia and underscored the close and longstanding ties between Malaysia and Indonesia, rooted in shared history, culture and people-to-people linkages.

HIGH COMMISSION OF MALAYSIA HOSTS IFTAR RECEPTION IN ISLAMABAD
On 25 February 2026, the High Commission of Malaysia in Islamabad upheld its annual tradition by hosting an Iftar Reception at the Mayang Sari Hall. The event brought together distinguished guests, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, members of the Malaysian community, and friends of Malaysia in Pakistan.
His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, and To' Puan Amelia Amani Lee Abdullah warmly welcomed the guests and officiated the event. In his welcoming remarks, His Excellency highlighted the spiritual significance of the holy month of Ramadan as a time of reflection, compassion, discipline, and unity. He noted that fasting nurtures empathy and consideration for others, values that strengthen both communities and nations.
The programme featured a commemorative photo session followed by a recitation of doa prior to the breaking of fast. Guests subsequently performed the Maghrib prayer before proceeding to dinner, which showcased a selection of Malaysian and Pakistani delicacies, symbolising the rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality of both nations.
The Iftar Reception served as a meaningful platform for engagement and fellowship, reinforcing the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan in a spirit of goodwill, unity, and mutual understanding.

MEETING BETWEEN THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF MALAYSIA AND THE SPECIAL SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF COMMERCE, PAKISTAN
On 20 February 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, accompanied by the First Secretary, met with Mr. Syed Hamid Ali, Special Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad.
The meeting focused on strengthening Malaysia–Pakistan trade relations, particularly in the agricultural sector. The Pakistani side conveyed its interest in increasing exports of basmati rice and potatoes to Malaysia, citing strong production capacity and competitive pricing. They also raised the matter of market access for Pakistani mutton exports and expressed hope for continued engagement on the issue.
The High Commissioner noted that Malaysia’s import decisions are guided by domestic supply and demand considerations, as well as regulatory requirements. He assured that the requests raised would be conveyed to the relevant authorities in Kuala Lumpur for further review.
Both sides also exchanged views on the ongoing discussions to enhance the Malaysia–Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA), with the next round of engagements expected to take place later this year. The High Commissioner highlighted Malaysia’s continued commitment to strengthening business-to-business linkages, including through the presence of Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) in Karachi.

On 19 February 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, High Commissioner of Malaysia, met with the newly elected President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
The discussions focused on key sectors with strong potential for growth, including halal beef collaboration, pharmaceutical cooperation, edible oil trade, the IT industry, and the import of Pakistani basmati rice to Malaysia. Both sides acknowledged the importance of leveraging complementarities to expand trade volumes and facilitate greater private sector engagement.
The meeting also touched on the possibility of establishing a direct flight between Islamabad and Kuala Lumpur via a Malaysian carrier, recognising that improved air connectivity would significantly enhance tourism, business exchanges, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
The High Commissioner highlighted Malaysia’s readiness to share its expertise in development projects and infrastructure. He noted Malaysia’s involvement in highway construction initiatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the development of Giga Mall in Rawalpindi, and Defence Raya Golf & Country Club. Malaysia is also engaged in the energy sector through TNB Remaco and in telecommunications infrastructure via edotco Group.
President Sardar Tahir Mehmood welcomed Malaysia’s continued engagement and expressed ICCI’s commitment to strengthening business-to-business linkages. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to further enhance economic cooperation and bilateral relations between Malaysia and Pakistan.
