They discussed the evolving regional situation. Mr Falconer appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy in support of peace and stability in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting today to discuss a number of important issues relating to the welfare of Overseas Pakistanis. Participants included Foreign Secretary, Secretary Interior, Director General IMPASS and senior officials of the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs.
The meeting discussed in detail the recent policy decision that was taken vide circular dated 5 June 2024 for not issuing passport to any individual who had sought asylum or already living on asylum abroad. It was decided to reverse the policy decision with immediate effect and to withdraw the circular of 5 June 2024.
Issues relating to delays in issuance of passports to Pakistanis living abroad were also discussed. Secretary Interior and Director General IMPASS briefed the Deputy Prime Minister about the ongoing efforts to streamline the process. It was decided that the Ministry of Interior and IMPASS will take immediate necessary steps to upgrade the infrastructure/equipment within next the 45 days and to fast track the clearance of the entire backlog relating to issuance of passports to overseas Pakistanis.

DPM and FM Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a high-level meeting to holistically review preparations and arrangements for the upcoming official visit of Azerbaijani President, especially focusing on trade and investment relations between the two brotherly countries. The meeting was attended by Ministers for Commerce, Planning and Development, Privatization and Communication and Power along with the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, and senior officials of MOFA.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar briefed the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs today.
In the first meeting of the newly constituted Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister gave a detailed briefing on contours of Pakistan’s foreign policy and its priorities particularly in the context of high level engagement with strategic, tradtional and regional partners as well as multilateral organizations such as the UN, OIC, SCO, D8 and others.
The DPM also responded to queries by the Committee and informed them of important milestones achieved and economic and multilateral diplomacy.
