Female education society was formed in 1917 and laid the foundation of a school “Carnario Indian Girls High School” on Burns road in Garikhata.
It was maintained by subscription and granted from the government and the municipality. The following gentlemen which were also the main donars, form the management committee for the society and the school,

The teaching staff was headed by Miss D’ Abreo who had post graduate degree from University of Bombay and also having the diploma of Teachers Training from Bombay college. Most of the faculty members were trained lady teachers and some were graduates from University of Bombay. This college housed in an avacue property, started functioning in first June 1949, where two educational institutions namely ‘Indian Carnario high school for girl’s’and ‘Vishun Devi Narain Das Maha Kenya Vidyala’ inter college (established in 1936, one of the donar was lady Nusrat haroon) were running in pre-partitioned days of the subcontinent. The college was the first Girls College established in Karachi city and named ‘Central Government College for Women’ Karachi given under the administrative control of the Ministry of Education Government of Pakistan. Mrs Zeenat Rasheed Ahmed a Selectee of Federal Public Service Commission of Pakistan was First Principal of this newly born women college. When she took the charge of the college there was only one peon no teachers and no students. In couple of months she appointed seventeen teachers and gave admission to one fifty students by persuing parents to send their daughters for education. She remained as a Principal for good twenty years and when she left there were fifty teachers and about three thousand students. Her services were fully lauded and she was awarded Tamgha-e-Quaid-i-Azam and Sitara-i-Khidmat by the Government of Pakistan and numerous shields by private organizations. She was also selected as First Woman to represent Pakistan in women conference in Holland. In 1961 the college was brought under the administration of the provincial government and was re-named the Government College for Women, Karachi. The institution provided Science and Arts teaching up to degree level. Boarding facilities were available in this college in those days where twenty five students from Iran, Germany, Sri Lanka and other parts of the country were residing.A branch of the same college was established in January 1968 in Nazimadad with her help. Now this college is an independent institution. After the dissolution of one-unit Government and formation of Government of Sindh, this college came under the education department of sindh through the Directorate of College Education Karachi. Presently Government College for Women, Shahrah - e - Liaquat Karachi is one the biggest and reputed institute of Karachi, housed 4000 students in three faculties Arts, Science and Commerce with sixty six teaching faculty and sixty two non teaching staff.
