A Productive Meeting with the Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan & Karachi Center For Climate Change.

It was an honor to meet with the Honorable Minister of State, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali Khan Kharal. The Minister of State and the Director of the Karachi Climate Change Center (KCCC), Mr. Bulent Sohail Syed, convened to discuss avenues for collaboration between KCCC and MoCC in advancing Pakistan's climate action agenda, with a particular focus on planning for COP31 in Turkey later this year.

On August 12th, Sohail University set up a community health camp at Abdul hai foundation (AH Foundation) situated in Mubarak Village. While health may not seem like a climate issue, there are many climate-related illnesses that are prevalent in coastal communities (malnutrition, dehydration, respiratory issues).

We also spoke to the community about their concerns regarding the lack of medical access, commercialisation of fishing and the adoption of unsustainable materials (longlines, bottom trawling, blast fishing etc), resulting in habitat loss, disrupting coastal food security and local fishing economies.

Together, we explored how the community can be empowered with the support of Sohail Trust Hospital, JINNAH MEDICAL & DENTAL COLLEGE, Sohail University, Karachi Center For Climate Change (KCCC), Karachi University (KU) and ORIC Sohail University.

Thank you to Abdul Hai Foundation (AH Foundation) for opening up their beautiful school for this free medical camp. This would not have been possible without the support and coordination of their team and staff.

Grateful to the community medical camp team, volunteers and medical consultants led by Prof.Dr.Syed Sanowar Ali and Dr. Muhammad Humza.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) — KATI, KCCC & ORIC Signing Ceremony 🖋️

The Karachi Centre for Climate Change (KCCC) — Sohail University, the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) — Sohail University, and the Korangi Association of Trade And Industry(KATI) have officially signed an MoU on July 30th, 2026.

This partnership creates a roadmap to turn climate solutions from research and policy into real-world action.
Representing Sohail University: Bulent Sohail (Director, KCCC), Faryal Diwan (Manager, KCCC), and Dr. Asma Tabassum (Head of ORIC).

Representing KATI: Mr. Syed Mohammad Talha Ali (Vice President), Ms. Nighat Awan (Senior Vice President), and Ms. Maheen Salman (Adviser on Environment and Climate Change).
This collaboration marks a shift in Pakistan's industrial sector toward sustainability — opening doors for knowledge sharing, compliance support, and meaningful action to protect vulnerable communities and our environment.

Director KCCC, Mr. Bulent Sohail, attended the Dissemination Event hosted by Transparency International Pakistan on “Carbon Markets Readiness in Pakistan: Addressing Governance Gaps and Safeguarding Against Integrity Risks.”

Mr. Sohail participated as a panelist in a session focused on Policy and Institutional Considerations for Carbon Market Development in Pakistan. The panel was moderated by Mr. Kashif Ali, Executive Director, Transparency International Pakistan.
