According to United Nations "Indigenous Peoples protect 80% of global biodiversity & are key to . Yet they’re often excluded from decisions & funding affecting their own lands —while facing rising threats from environmental degradation."
This is a powerful reminder of the critical role Indigenous Peoples play in safeguarding our planet’s biodiversity and fighting climate change. Their traditional knowledge and sustainable practices are invaluable—yet they continue to face exclusion, marginalization, and threats to their lands.
It’s time to center Indigenous leadership in environmental decision-making, ensure direct access to funding, and legally protect their rights. Climate justice cannot be achieved without Indigenous. "Indigenous Peoples are not just stakeholders—they are the foremost experts in preserving ecosystems their ancestors nurtured for millennia. Yet systemic barriers deny them seats at decision-making tables and equitable funding.
We urge governments to:
1- Recognize Indigenous land tenure as a climate solution,
2-Reform conservation funding to bypass intermediaries,
3-Integrate traditional knowledge into national climate plans.
