November 6 — Kashmir Martyrs’ Day Seminar at PID Peshawar

Peshawar, November 6 — In connection with Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, a seminar was organized at the Press Information Department (PID) Peshawar under the chairmanship of Information Officer Sabiha Chand. President of Peshawar Press Club Muhammad Riaz and senior journalist Fareedullah attended as guest speakers, while participants from different walks of life were also present.

In her opening remarks, Sabiha Chand said that the purpose of commemorating November 6, 1947, is to pay tribute to the innocent Kashmiris who were martyred at the hands of the Dogra forces, RSS, and Sikh troops. She said that before the partition of the subcontinent, Kashmir was a Muslim-majority region, but the organized massacre changed its demographic character. She emphasized that observing Kashmir Martyrs’ Day reminds the world that the Kashmir issue must be resolved in light of historical facts and principles of justice, as ignoring these truths would be tantamount to injustice with the Kashmiri people.

Speaking on the occasion, President of Peshawar Press Club and senior journalist Muhammad Riaz said that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had declared Kashmir as the “jugular vein” of Pakistan, and that Pakistan’s concept is incomplete without it. He said the issue of Kashmir remains a question mark on the conscience of the international community. Through the genocide of 1947, an attempt was made to turn the Muslim majority of Kashmir into a minority as part of a well-planned conspiracy to alter the region’s demographic and geographical identity.

Riaz further said that the Kashmiri people did not accept Indian occupation then, nor do they accept it today. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic, and political support for the Kashmiri cause, adding that “Kashmir is Pakistan’s red line, and the entire nation stands united on this issue.” He also highlighted the significant role of the media in strengthening this struggle, stressing the need for national unity and cohesion — as demonstrated during Operation Bunyan al-Marsous.

Addressing the seminar, senior journalist Fareedullah from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that the oppression of Kashmiris did not begin after Pakistan’s creation but even before it. He cited records from the British Library, where reports from independent journalists of the time document that nearly 500,000 Kashmiri Muslims were massacred by November 1947. Before this tragedy, Muslims made up 61% of Kashmir’s population, but after the killings, the proportion dropped to 31%, indicating a deliberate plan to change the region’s demographic structure.

Fareedullah added that the same extremist mindset resurfaced in 2019 when India revoked Kashmir’s special constitutional status, allowing non-locals to settle, purchase land, and establish industries in the region — a move aimed at turning Muslims into a minority in their own homeland. He criticized the United Nations for failing to implement its own resolutions on Kashmir, calling it a weak institution that has lost its moral authority.

In her concluding remarks, Sabiha Chand said that if the Israeli Prime Minister can be labeled a criminal against humanity for the mass killing of Palestinians, then those responsible for the atrocities in Kashmir should also be held accountable at the international level. She said the mass killings and forced land seizures in Kashmir constitute crimes against humanity. The world, she stressed, must send a clear message that injustice and oppression anywhere will not be accepted, and those who commit such acts will have to answer for their deeds.

پشاور، 6 نومبر — یومِ شہدائے جموں کے موقع پر پریس انفارمیشن ڈیپارٹمنٹ (پی آئی ڈی) پشاور میں ایک سیمینار کا انعقاد کیا گیا، جس کی صدارت پی آئی ڈی پشاور کی انچارج انفارمیشن آفیسر صبیحہ چاند نے کی۔ سیمینار میں صدر پشاور پریس کلب محمد ریاض اور معروف صحافی فرید اللہ نے بطورِ مقررین شرکت کی، جبکہ مختلف مکاتبِ فکر سے تعلق رکھنے والے افراد نے بھی شرکت کی۔

افتتاحی کلمات میں صبیحہ چاند نے کہا کہ 6 نومبر 1947 کے سانحہ کو یاد رکھنے کا مقصد اُن بے گناہ کشمیریوں کو خراجِ عقیدت پیش کرنا ہے جو ڈوگرہ فورسز، آر ایس ایس اور سکھ فوجیوں کے ہاتھوں شہید ہوئے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ برصغیر کی تقسیم سے قبل کشمیر ایک مسلم اکثریتی علاقہ تھا، مگر اس منظم قتلِ عام نے اس کی آبادیاتی ساخت کو بدل کر رکھ دیا۔ صبیحہ چاند نے کہا کہ یومِ شہدائے کشمیر منانے کا مقصد دنیا کو یہ باور کرانا ہے کہ کشمیر کا مسئلہ تاریخی حقائق اور انصاف کے اصولوں کی روشنی میں حل ہونا چاہیے، کیونکہ ان حقائق کو نظر انداز کرنا کشمیری عوام کے ساتھ ناانصافی کے مترادف ہوگا۔

اس موقع پر صدر پشاور پریس کلب اور سینئر صحافی محمد ریاض نے اپنے خطاب میں کہا کہ قائداعظم محمد علی جناح نے کشمیر کو پاکستان کی شہ رگ قرار دیا تھا، اور اس کے بغیر پاکستان کا تصور نامکمل ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کشمیر کا مسئلہ عالمی ضمیر کے لیے ایک بڑا سوالیہ نشان ہے۔ 1947 میں ہونے والے قتلِ عام کے ذریعے کشمیری مسلمانوں کی اکثریت کو اقلیت میں تبدیل کرنے کی کوشش کی گئی۔ یہ عمل ایک سوچے سمجھے منصوبے کے تحت کیا گیا، جس کا مقصد کشمیر کی جغرافیائی و آبادیاتی حیثیت کو تبدیل کرنا تھا۔

محمد ریاض نے مزید کہا کہ کشمیری عوام نے اُس وقت بھی بھارتی تسلط کو تسلیم نہیں کیا تھا اور آج بھی اپنی جدوجہد جاری رکھے ہوئے ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان اپنے کشمیری بھائیوں کی اخلاقی، سفارتی اور سیاسی سطح پر حمایت جاری رکھے گا۔ کشمیر پاکستان کی ریڈ لائن ہے، اس پر پوری قوم متحد ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کشمیریوں کی جدوجہد آزادی کی کامیابی کے لیے میڈیا کا کردار انتہائی اہم ہے، تاہم اس کے لیے اتحاد و اتفاق اور قومی یکجہتی ناگزیر ہے، جس کا مظاہرہ قوم نے آپریشن "بنیان المرصوص" کے دوران بھی کیا۔

سیمینار سے خیبرپختونخوا کے سینئر صحافی فرید اللہ نے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ کشمیریوں پر مظالم کا سلسلہ پاکستان کے معرضِ وجود میں آنے کے بعد نہیں بلکہ اس سے قبل ہی شروع ہو چکا تھا۔ برٹش لائبریری میں موجود اُس وقت کے آزاد صحافیوں کی رپورٹس کے مطابق، نومبر 1947 تک تقریباً پانچ لاکھ کشمیری مسلمانوں کو شہید کیا گیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ 6 نومبر سے قبل کشمیر میں مسلمانوں کی آبادی کا تناسب 61 فیصد تھا جو قتل عام کے بعد کم ہو کر 31 فیصد رہ گیا، یوں ایک منظم منصوبہ بندی کے تحت کشمیر کی آبادیاتی شناخت کو بدلنے کی کوشش کی گئی۔

فرید اللہ نے کہا کہ یہی بنیاد پرستانہ سوچ 2019 میں بھی ظاہر ہوئی جب بھارت نے کشمیر کی خصوصی آئینی حیثیت ختم کرکے ہندو آبادی کو وہاں آباد ہونے، زمینیں خریدنے اور کاروبار قائم کرنے کی اجازت دی۔ اس اقدام کا مقصد کشمیری مسلمانوں کو ان کے ہی وطن میں اقلیت میں تبدیل کرنا ہے۔ انہوں نے اقوامِ متحدہ پر تنقید کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ یہ ایک کمزور ادارہ بن چکا ہے جو کشمیر سے متعلق اپنی ہی قراردادوں پر عمل درآمد کرانے میں ناکام رہا ہے۔

سیمینار کے اختتام پر صبیحہ چاند نے اپنے تاثرات میں کہا کہ اگر ہزاروں فلسطینیوں کے قتلِ عام پر اسرائیلی وزیراعظم کو انسانیت کا مجرم قرار دیا جا سکتا ہے، تو کشمیر میں ہونے والے مظالم کے ذمہ داروں کو بھی اسی طرح عالمی سطح پر جوابدہ ٹھہرایا جانا چاہیے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ کشمیریوں کے قتلِ عام اور اُن کی زمینوں پر جبراً قبضہ کرنے کی کارروائیاں انسانیت کے خلاف سنگین جرائم ہیں۔ دنیا کو یہ پیغام دینا ہوگا کہ جہاں کہیں بھی ظلم یا ناانصافی ہوگی، اسے کسی صورت قبول نہیں کیا جائے گا اور مظالم ڈھانے والوں کو اپنے اعمال کا جواب دینا ہوگا۔
