Today, 17 February 2026 (Tuesday), worthy Director General (Research), Livestock & Dairy Development Punjab Dr Sajjad Hussain chaired a comprehensive performance review meeting of the directorate of Poultry Research Institute (PRI), Rawalpindi. Director PRI, Dr Farhan Afzal along with technical staff actively participated in the meeting and presented their respective performance.The Director General Research appreciated the ongoing activities and achievements of PRI Rawalpindi and encouraged the team to propose new initiatives and enhance field oriented research to further strengthen poultry production activities across Punjab.

Official Announcement | Milestone Achieved 🎉

The Bacteriology Laboratory, Poultry Research Institute (PRI), Rawalpindi in collaboration with Fleming Fund Country Grant has successfully completed its final assessment for ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by external auditors Mr. Attiq ur Rehman Memon, Director General, Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) and Dr. Shumaila Manzoor, Scientific Officer (NVL).

This significant milestone was achieved under the visionary leadership of Dr. Sajjad Hussain Kashfi, Director General Research, L&DD Punjab, with dedicated efforts of Dr. Farhan Afzal (Director, PRI), Dr. Akbar Ali (Quality Manager), Dr Ghazala Naheed ( Sectional In charge) Dr. Shazia Nazeer (Technical Manager), and the entire Bacteriology Laboratory team.

The Directorate of Poultry Research Institute, Rawalpindi hosted representatives from FAO and WHO during a recent visit aimed at strengthening collaboration under the Pandemic Preparedness Fund. The visit led to constructive discussions on collaboration regarding Trans-boundary animal diseases (TAD) especially High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), community engagement and coordinated response to address future potential pandemic threats. The discussions concluded that coordinated efforts among Public health, livestock and Dairy Development department Punjab, wildlife, agriculture and environment are direly needed. Such collaborative engagements reflect a shared commitment to safeguarding animal and public health in the larger perspective. We look forward to continued cooperation with FAO and WHO to advance preparedness, resilience, and sustainable development in the poultry sector. Directorate of Poultry Research Institute is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Three-Month Training Course on Poultry Housing and Management, conducted from 1st September 2025 to 28th November 2025. This comprehensive training program was designed to strengthen technical expertise, enhance managerial skills, and promote scientifically sound practices within the poultry sector.

Over the course of three months, participants were engaged in extensive theoretical and practical learning sessions covering modern housing systems, environmental management, biosecurity protocols, feeding strategies, disease prevention, and overall farm management. The program aimed to equip trainees with updated knowledge and hands-on experience essential for improving productivity and ensuring the sustainability of poultry operations.

We extend our heartfelt appreciations to all participants for their dedication, discipline, and active engagement throughout the training period. Their commitment to professional development reflects a strong progressive and evidence-based approaches within the poultry industry.

Meeting regarding Breeding Policy for Rural Poultry Breeds – Poultry Research Institute,

A meeting of the Expert Committee constituted by the Directorate of Poultry Research Institute (PRI), Rawalpindi, was held on Friday, 28th November 2025 at PRI, Rawalpindi. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Farhan Afzal (Director, PRI), participant from academia was Zaib ur Rehman (Poultry Science Department, PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi), representative of private sector was Dr. Muhammad Javed, Dr. Shafique ur Rehman (DICO Multan, via online link), Dr. Aamir Sharif (Poultry Development Officer OPS, GPF Bahawalpur), Dr. Akbar Ali (Senior Veterinary Officer, PRI Rawalpindi), and Dr. Abida Parveen (Senior Veterinary Officer, PRI Rawalpindi).
The purpose of the meeting was to focus on key technical and developmental matters related to the improvement of poultry production systems across Punjab.
This meeting aimed to discuss important agenda items related to improving backyard poultry and government poultry farm management. Key points of this meeting include:
✅ Developing a 5-year rearing & breeding plan for Backyard Poultry
✅ Introducing new blood lines to prevent inbreeding
✅ Improving health management and SOPs
✅ Formulating flock size & biosecurity guidelines
✅ Setting culling policy for Government Poultry Farms
✅ Examining male-to-female ratios
✅ Developing breed crosses (up to F1/F2)
✅ Describing back-crossing to maintain blood lines
✅ Creating farm-wise rearing plans
✅ Proposing nutrition, feed, and water analysis protocols
✅ Discussing any additional issues raised by committee members
PRI is planning to take strong steps toward enhancing rural poultry development, genetic improvement, and farm management at Govt Poultry farms across Punjab.

الوداع اور نیک تمناؤں کے ساتھ
آج مورخہ 30 اکتوبر 2025ء کو ڈائریکٹوریٹ آف پولٹری ریسرچ انسٹیٹیوٹ، راولپنڈی میں ادارے کے معزز و محترم ڈائریکٹر ڈاکٹر محمد سرفراز احمد چٹھہ صاحب کے اعزاز میں ایک سادہ اور پُر وقار الوداعی تقریب کا انعقاد کیا گیا۔
اس تقریب میں ڈائریکٹوریٹ کے تمام افسران اور عملے نے بھرپور شرکت کی۔ شرکاء نے ڈاکٹر صاحب کی ادارے کے لیے خدمات، ان کی قیادت، علمی بصیرت اور پیشہ ورانہ کارکردگی کو خراجِ تحسین پیش کیا۔ سب نے اس بات کا اعتراف کیا کہ ڈاکٹرمحمد سرفراز احمد چٹھہ صاحب نے اپنے دورِ قیادت میں ادارے کو ترقی، نظم و ضبط اور تحقیق کے نئے اہداف سے روشناس کرایا۔
اس موقع پر جناب عزّت مآب اسپیشل سیکریٹری جنوبی پنجاب، جناب اسد نعیم صاحب نے بطور نمائندہ ایڈمن ڈیپارٹمنٹ خصوصی شرکت کی۔ اپنی گفتگو میں انہوں نے ڈاکٹر سرفراز احمد چٹھہ کی خدمات کو سراہتے ہوئے نیک تمناؤں کا اظہار کیا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ڈائریکٹر صاحب نے ہمیشہ اپنی مثبت سوچ، علمی وژن، ٹیم ورک اور پیشہ ورانہ صلاحیتوں سے نہ صرف ادارے بلکہ اپنے ساتھیوں کو بھی بہتر سے بہتر کارکردگی دکھانے کی ترغیب دی۔

🌿 گرین پنجاب مہم کے تحت شجرکاری تقریب 🌿

وزیراعلیٰ پنجاب محترمہ مریم نواز شریف صاحبہ کی ہدایت کے مطابق "Green Punjab" مہم کے تحت، صوبائی وزیر برائے لائیوسٹاک و ڈیری ڈیویلپمنٹ پنجاب محترم جناب عاشق حسین کرمانی، عزّت مآب سیکریٹری محکمہ لائیوسٹاک و ڈیری ڈیویلپمنٹ حکومتِ پنجاب جناب احمد عزیز تارڑ اور اسپیشل سیکریٹری جنوبی پنجاب جناب اسد نعیم کی سرپرستی میں، آج مورخہ 29.10.2025 کو اسپیشل سیکریٹری جنوبی پنجاب جناب اسد نعیم نے ڈائریکٹر پولٹری ریسرچ انسٹیٹیوٹ راولپنڈی، ڈاکٹر محمد سرفراز احمد چٹھہ کے ہمراہ پودا لگایا۔ 🌱

Speakers emphasized on the qualities of an egg and its importance as a rich source of protein and inclusion in diet. Egg awareness walk was organized in the PRI. Cooking competition was also organized and a lot of females participated in the competition. Shields and cash prizes were distributed among the winners.
Senior Management of PRI & Staff gave a vote of thanks to all the guests and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team.
