Hon. Funmilayo Adeogun Meets Ward C CDA Stakeholders and Bowlers, Strengthens Drive for a Safer and Cleaner Bariga
As part of her commitment to grassroots development and community engagement, the Councillor representing Ward C, Bariga Local Council, Hon. Funmilayo Adeogun, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, paid a working visit to the Community Development Associations (CDAs) in Ward C, namely Ajose Owode CDA, Ifelodun CDA, and Idera Oluwa CDA.
The meeting was attended by CDA executives, stakeholders, community leaders, the APC Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Akin Mejolagbe, and the Ward C APC Chairman, Mr. Sunday Onanuga.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Adeogun spoke on the need for sustainable development in Ward C, with emphasis on security, environmental sanitation, and stronger collaboration between residents and the Local Council.
On waste management, she urged the CDAs to continue educating residents against dumping refuse in drainage channels, noting that such practices contribute to flooding and environmental pollution. She also advised community leaders to ensure that developers do not leave sand, granite, or other building materials inside gutters, as this blocks the free flow of water.
Speaking on security, Hon. Adeogun stressed that keeping the community safe is everyone's responsibility. She noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) remains committed to improving security across the country and called on residents, community leaders, and security agencies to work together to protect lives and property.
The APC Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Akin Mejolagbe, also spoke on the need for stronger community participation in security. He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
The Ward C APC Chairman, Mr. Sunday Onanuga, encouraged the CDAs to continue working closely with the government in promoting peace, development, and environmental cleanliness.
IIssues Raised by the CDAs
Responding on behalf of the CDAs, community representatives appreciated the visit and described it as a welcome opportunity for direct engagement. They called for closer collaboration between the CDAs and the Local Council, especially through the deployment of sanitary inspectors to strengthen environmental enforcement.
The major concerns raised included:
- Repair of faulty community boreholes.
- Evacuation of abandoned vehicles.
- Stronger enforcement of environmental sanitation laws.
- Greater community involvement in security, recognising that everyone has a role to play.
A prominent CDA executive, Hon. Penny K, described the meeting as long overdue. He called for regular engagement between the Local Council and the CDAs, greater involvement of youths, and stricter monitoring of developers to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
He also appealed for the removal of structures and containers blocking drainage channels, increased support from the Local Council in tackling security challenges, and a review of the name Community Development Association (CDA) to better reflect its responsibilities. He further advocated a stronger role for the CDAs in environmental sanitation and community law enforcement.
Hon. Adeogun's Response
Responding to the issues raised, Hon. Funmilayo Adeogun assured participants that all concerns would be forwarded to the Executive Chairman of Bariga LCDA. She encouraged each CDA to put its requests in writing and seek meetings with the Council Chairman, assuring them that their concerns would receive due attention.
She also advised the CDAs to maintain regular communication with the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, noting that the Ministry remains an important partner in addressing environmental challenges.
Hon. Adeogun reaffirmed the Local Council's commitment to the welfare of residents and stressed that effective enforcement of environmental laws requires the cooperation of everyone. She observed that enforcement efforts are sometimes weakened when offenders are arrested and community members later intervene for their release.
She further encouraged every CDA to register with the nearest police station to strengthen community policing and improve emergency response.
At the end of the meeting, participants agreed that such engagements should be held once every two months to review progress, address emerging challenges, and strengthen collaboration between the Local Council, the CDAs, and residents.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to work together towards a cleaner, safer, and more peaceful Ward C.
Visit to Adifase Bowlers, Off Akilo Street
In a related engagement, Hon. Funmilayo Adeogun visited the bowlers operating at Adifase, off Akilo Street. She encouraged them to keep their surroundings clean and support the Local Council's environmental sanitation efforts.
She also advised them to establish a proper means of identification for security purposes, explaining that this would improve accountability and strengthen cooperation with security agencies.
In response, the bowlers appreciated the Councillor's visit and pledged to comply with her recommendations. They assured her of their support in maintaining a peaceful, orderly, and cleaner environment.
The visit ended with an inspection of the Adegbuyi Community Borehole, where Hon. Adeogun assessed its condition following complaints from residents and assured them that steps would be taken to seek the necessary intervention.
