This year's global theme is "Our Power, Our Planet" — and today, we want to mark the importance of mangrove conservation, here in Qatar and around the world.

These photos were taken at Purple Island (Bin Ghannam Island) near Al Khor, home to one of Qatar's most significant coastal ecosystems — the Avicennia marina, or grey mangrove, uniquely adapted to the saline waters of the Arabian Gulf.

Mangrove forests store up to 5× more carbon than land-based forests, support coastal biodiversity, and provide nursery habitats for fish, crabs, and migratory birds — including flamingos travelling the East Africa/West Asia Flyway.

We take note of the ongoing work by .qa (partner of ), the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change , Qatar University , and MSC Foundation to restore 40 hectares of Qatar's coastal mangroves — the equivalent of 56 football pitches.

Prime Minister met with HH The Amir Bin Hamad Al Thani and HE PM and FM in Doha today. They discussed the latest regional and international developments, reaffirming the strong and enduring partnership between the UK and Qatar. 🇬🇧🇶🇦

جرى خلال المقابلة، استعراض علاقات التعاون بين البلدين وسبل دعمها وتعزيزها ، لا سيما في مجال الدفاع، ومناقشة تطورات التصعيد العسكري في المنطقة وتداعياته الخطيرة على الأمن والاستقرار إقليميا ودوليا، وسبل حل كافة الخلافات بالوسائل السلمية.
HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met Tuesday in Doha with HE Secretary of State for Defense of the United Kingdom John Healey.

The meeting dealt with discussing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to support and enhance it, particularly in the field of defense.

They also addressed developments in the military escalation in the region and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, as well as ways to resolve all disputes through peaceful means.

جرى خلال اللقاء استعراض آخر المستجدات والتطورات الأمنية في المنطقة، وبحث أوجه التعاون الدفاعي والتنسيق المشترك في ظل الظروف الراهنة.

حضر اللقاء عدد من كبار القادة الضباط من الجانبين.

Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of State for Defense Affairs Meets UK Secretary of State for Defense

H. E. Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of State for Defense Affairs, met with H. E. Mr. John Healey, UK Secretary of State for Defense, during his visit to the State of Qatar.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest regional security developments and discussed aspects of defense cooperation and joint coordination in light of the current circumstances.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior military officers from both sides.
