صُنعت في القاهرة بين عامي 1846 و1847 للسلطان عبد المجيد، وكانت جزءًا من الكسوة السنوية التي كانت تُرسل إلى مكة مع قافلة الحجاج، وتعكس هذه التقاليد دور السلاطين العثمانيين بوصفهم رعاة الحرمين الشريفين.

كانت الستارة تُوضع فوق باب الكعبة، وتُعد الجزء الأكثر زخرفة في الكسوة. وتكشف تطريزاتها الدقيقة عن مهارة ورشات القاهرة، حيث أتقن الحرفيون هذا الفن عبر أجيال متعاقبة.

Made in Cairo in 1846–47 for Sultan Abdülmecid, it was part of the annual kiswa sent to Mecca with the pilgrims’ caravan. This tradition reflected the Ottoman sultans’ role as custodians of the Two Holy Mosques.

Placed above the door of the Ka‘ba, the sitara was the most decorated part of the kiswa. Its detailed embroidery shows the skill of Cairo’s workshops, where generations of artisans perfected this craft over time.

جاء اليوم العالمي للمتاحف في متحف الفن الإسلامي ليؤكد أن المتاحف ليست مجرد مساحات تحتضن التاريخ والمقتنيات، بل أماكن تُلهم الفضول وتفتح أبواب الإبداع.

ومن الجولات الإرشادية إلى القصص التي رافقت الزوار بين أروقة المتحف، جمع هذا اليوم مختلف الأجيال حول تجارب ثقافية مشتركة تواصل إلهام المجتمع وتعزيز ارتباطه بالثقافة والفنون.

International Museum Day at Museum of Islamic Art was a reminder that museums are more than spaces that preserve objects and histories, they spark curiosity and inspire creativity.

From storytelling to gallery tours, the day brought together visitors of all ages through shared cultural experiences that continue to inspire a community.

صُنع في الهند خلال فترة الحكم البريطاني، ويجمع بين تطريز وزخارف مستوحاة من الحِرف المغولية التقليدية، وبين تصميم أقرب إلى المعاطف الأوروبية الكلاسيكية. والنتيجة قطعة تعكس كيف امتزجت الثقافات وتداخلت الهويات في تلك الفترة.

ويحمل اللؤلؤ أيضًا دلالة خاصة، إذ كان يومًا جزءًا مهمًا من اقتصاد الخليج، وانتقل عبر طرق التجارة في المحيط الهندي، ليربط هذه القطعة بتاريخ المنطقة.

Did you know this coat reflects two worlds in one garment? 👀

Made in India during the British Raj, it blends Mughal craft traditions, velvet, metallic threadwork, and pearls, with a distinctly European frock coat silhouette. The result is a piece shaped by cultural exchange and shifting identities.

The pearls also carry meaning: once central to Gulf economies, they travelled through Indian Ocean trade routes and connect this object to the region’s own history.
