What if you could detect hazardous chemicals on the spot, without sending samples to a lab?

Through QRDI Council’s Qatar Open Innovation (QOI) Program, WEIMU Intelligence Company has developed a portable mass spectrometry device designed to detect hazardous and restricted substances more quickly.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the innovation has moved from concept to practical trials, with potential applications at Qatar’s border crossings, ports and inspection points.

This is open innovation in action: connecting real-world challenges with new technologies to turn ideas into practical solutions.

ماذا لو أمكن الكشف عن المواد الكيميائية الخطرة في موقعها مباشرة، دون الحاجة إلى إرسال العينات إلى المختبر؟

من خلال برنامج قطر للابتكار المفتوح التابع لمجلس قطر للبحث والتطوير والابتكار، طوّرت شركة ويمو جهازًا محمولًا يعتمد على تقنية مطيافية الكتلة، للكشف عن المواد الخطرة والمقيّدة بشكل أسرع.

وبالتعاون مع وزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي، انتقل الابتكار من مرحلة الفكرة إلى التجارب العملية، مع إمكانية استخدامه في المنافذ الحدودية والموانئ ونقاط التفتيش في دولة قطر.

هذا هو الابتكار المفتوح على أرض الواقع: ربط التحديات الفعلية بالتقنيات الجديدة لتحويل الأفكار إلى حلول عملية.

Nathan Cheng from RUNTOP explains how his team developed an AI-powered navigation robot to help passengers find their destinations as part of the Qatar Open Innovation Program.

This is one of several solutions developed to address real challenges in Qatar.

How can a blind person independently explore images, maps and cultural heritage collections?

Discover the Accessible Digital Kiosk at Qatar National Library, which allows people with disabilities to explore cultural heritage through touch, Braille, audio descriptions and sign language.

The kiosk was developed in collaboration with Qatar National Library, Mada Center, and Synchronized Business Solutions, with support from Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council through the Qatar Open Innovation program.

ابتكارات قطر في التبريد تستحق الاهتمام

يتناول عبد الله طاهر، رئيس قسم المحتوى الرقمي في مجلس قطر للبحوث والتطوير والابتكار، موضوعًا يرتبط مباشرة بحرارة الصيف في قطر: كيف تعمل تقنيات التبريد الحديثة؟

تُبرّد المكيفات التقليدية المساحات الداخلية، لكنها تطرد الحرارة إلى الخارج. وفي قطر، تُستخدم حلول مختلفة، منها تقنيات تبريد الملاعب وشبكات تبريد المناطق التي تخدم عددًا كبيرًا من المباني.

Who supports startups in Qatar?

Malik Habayeb and Sarah Jane Hutchinson from the Global Innovation Alliances and Partnerships team at the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council explain how organizations in Qatar work together to support startups.

This support includes company setup, licensing, and office space, as well as access to talent, universities, national infrastructure, and opportunities to work with established institutions.

They also explain how organizations across the ecosystem coordinate to help startups access the right programs and opportunities at the right time.
