HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi received a phone call on Saturday from HE Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines Maria Theresa P. Lazaro.

During the call, they discussed bilateral cooperation between the two countries and ways to strengthen and enhance those ties, in addition to several issues of mutual interest.

Elite sporting talent hidden within the diaspora could soon compete on the national stage, as the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) explore pathways to recruit student athletes from Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs) to compete in national tournaments or even represent the Philippines in international competitions.

The two agencies are mapping out a framework that could lead to the formation of an official PSO student-athlete delegation to compete in the Batang Pinoy and the Palarong Pambansa—the country's flagship national youth games.

LOOK: The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Doha feted three Filipino foreign service graduates belonging to the Georgetown University in Qatar Class of 2026.

In recognition of this achievement, the Embassy hosted an intimate gathering at Sentro Rizal Doha, the Philippines’ cultural center in Qatar, on 24 May 2026.

In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, congratulated the students for completing their academic journey in Qatar and commended them for maintaining their connection to their Filipino heritage even as their horizons expand across the world.

Ambassador Melicor also shared stories of the life and times of Dr. Jose P. Rizal, national hero of the Philippines and a renowned scholar, who, like the students, pursued higher education overseas.

He added that Rizal’s legacy affirms the importance of celebrating Filipino heritage and identity among the youth wherever they may find themselves in.

The two officials also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern, including recent developments in the region and ways to strengthen cooperation.
