(6.10.2024 - 12.10.2024)
This week was slower, less busier than the last few. Left much more room for thinking, and I think there are really a lot of things that kind of hit hard. I've made tons of new friends from all across the world, and they're all... different. I think over the past few weeks, I've lost sight of what was important, of the things I actually cared about. I don't know a lot of people who're fond of the things I am, or who believe in the same things I do. Sometimes I get frustrated, and I've never really thought about how I always say something I don't mean to when I am. Moving forward, I think I'd like to work on that. A lot. I do love busy weeks where it kind of flies by and you're left with the satisfaction of having done a lot, but these quiet weeks are painfully slow, and frustratingly necessary.
On Sunday, nothing very special happened. On Monday, though, I got a new watch. My friends were happier than I was as I always asked them for the time every twenty five seconds. Tuesday and Wednesday passed without much event, but on Wednesday I did have my Student Council interview. (Wish me luck; they said they'd announce on Sunday!)
Thursday was Mental Health Awareness Day. If I had to describe the day with one word,: chaos. We have six lessons a day, and the last four lessons were skipped for this event. We had a workshop, and I felt kind of bad because, long story short, no one was really paying attention. Then, we were free. We weren't allowed into the gym for a while, so my friends and I were in and out of the cafeteria. I got marshmallows and brownies dipped in chocolate, but I didn't really have an appetite for the other food. Instead, I bought some good old pasta from the school cafeteria. Then my best friend and I headed inside. I bought a cup for my mother (the one in the picture), and she made a keychain. We tried our hand at the balloon popping dart game thingy, but we lost. Oh well.
This weekend's been a blast, too. My cousins are visiting, and we might go out to dinner tonight. Pretty content with this week :)
I'm still stuck on Northanger Abbey, though. Hoping to finish it this week, though :)
How was your week?

(26.9.24 - 5.10.24)
I can't believe that it's already October. Time really does fly by. It's funny how Sunday feels like it was a lifetime ago, but I still can't believe it's already the end of the week.
This week was fun, exhausting, busy, but I don't think I could be happier. This Sunday, we had a day off school, so my best friend and I went to Gondolania. It was an absolute blast, though it kind of feels like it never happened. Weird.
I had a lot of homework due Monday, but on Tuesday, we got let off thirty minutes earlier, thanks to Teachers' Day. On all Tuesdays, we get off an hour earlier, but this week it was a whole hour and a half earlier. My mom and I went to the library (the shrimp pasta there is amazing). I ended up getting a different edition of Macbeth than the one shown above, and I also picked up one more history book.
On Wednesday, we had a field trip to the Student Centre in Education City. It was cool, though it was too hot outside to do what we were supposed to do. By Thursday, I couldn't believe the week was over. This weekend, we went to City Centre, and today we went out for some shopping.
So, yeah... one fun-packed week. I'm currently reading Northanger Abbey. Adore that book, and absolutely perfect for this time of the year.
That's all for my week :) How was yours?

22.9.24-28.9.24
To say the least, this week was exhausting. Homework-filled, busy, but I don't think I'd have it any other way.
Sunday and Monday were packed with homework, but on Tuesday, we had our (drumroll) Student Council Elections.
I ran for Grade 7 representative, and got selected :). I made a new Jordanian friend through this election, which was pretty nice.
On Wednesday, I had debate club for the first time. Our theme was technology, and we had to argue if humans should colonise another planet using technology. I got picked to be on the affirmative team, and we lost, but it was fun.
This weekend, I started rearranging my bookshelf, but I changed plans about three times so it's still a work in progress. I'll try to post a picture of the finished thing on my story, though.
We went on a long drive today, and I didn't really have a lot of pictures for this week so you get three separate pictures of Skygirl bt Sherri L. Smith, which I borrowed from my school library. Honestly? I love this book. But not when it makes military training seem like high school.
That's all I can think of for this week. What was your week like? Tell me in the comments :)
Was your week good?

15.9.24-21.9.24
This week is one I don't think I'll forget easily. I might. We never know. Either way, this week was amazing. It was off to a spectacular start. A visit to Georgetown University to meet Author Abdulrazak Gurnah, a Tanzanian-born British author who won the Noble Prize. It was my first time ever actually meeting an author to get their book signed, and the whole time, I felt like I was floating on some kind of cloud.
The rest of the week was busy with school, but this Friday, we went to Msheireb, a place here in Qatar. There's an art piece there. 15,000 teddy bears in honour of the children of Palestine. The Lost Echo of Childhood, I think it's called. Each teddy bear is 100 QAR, but every riyal goes to Palestine.
The visual representation really makes it sink in exactly what is being lost. Exactly how much is being lost. We bought two, but they were 7kgs each. A block of cement underneath the teddy bear is used to represent the weight the people of Palestine carry inside and the lost, destroyed infrastructure.
May Allah protect the people of Gaza, and of Palestine. Aameen.

Something I wrote the other day :) Not the best, but I like it.

Melody has cerebral palsy, but that didn’t stop her from being probably the smartest in her entire grade. But no one knew. She was with some other kids, who, even with their bodily differences, were incredible at some things that “normal” kids took a long time to learn and apply in their lives. Everyone thought that whatever they saw of Melody outside was all there was. Like her insides were hollowed-out and empty. Like everyone else, that was not the case.
She was a girl of words–words were locked up inside her, swirling and blowing up storms but none came out. She tried and tried, but the world was deaf to her attempts.
As Melody’s extraordinary intelligence becomes clear to those around her, her story takes a beautiful turn. What once was locked up inside her now found ways to come out, beautiful and as normal as they could be.
This was a beautiful, beautiful book, and one that I’ve constantly thought about since I’ve read this. It’s a must-read for classrooms, and for people who are looking to understand more about how people live and struggle to get their differences accepted.
A magnificent piece of work that truly supports the idea that difference isn’t the problem–it’s the similarity of mindset that’s engraved into us.
