Muhammad Sadiq Bey was the first person to take photographs of Mecca, Medina and the Hajj. An Egyptian army engineer and surveyor, he was also the treasurer of the Egyptian Hajj caravan.

We are seeing the Yemeni corner of the Kaaba. A few pilgrims are performing twaaf. The Hanafi mussalah is on the left, and the dome of the muqam-e-Ibrahim (AS) is visible on the right of this rare photo.

Hijaz Railway with pilgrims crosses through desert and mountainous terrain.
