AL VIA L'INIZIATIVA SUD-INCA: INVEST IN CAPABILITY IN SUDAN - Supporting Employability for Sudanese Youth through the Establishment of Two Model Vocational Training Centers in Kassala and Red Sea States.
The Italian Ambassador to Sudan, H.E. Michele Tommasi, the UNESCO Representative to Sudan and Egypt and Liaison Officer with the League of Arab States, Nuria Sanz, and the head of the AICS Khartoum Office signed the Technical Agreement for the three-year initiative SUD-INCA: INVEST IN CAPABILITY IN SUDAN. This initiative valued 3 million euro aims to support employability for Sudanese youth through the establishment of two Model Vocational Training Centers in Kassala and Red Sea States.
The initiative includes providing infrastructural support, capacity development, and the supply of equipment and tools to the Technology Transfer and Extension Centre in Kassala and the Port Sudan Technical School in the Red Sea State. Additionally, the project will introduce vocational training courses in various fields including electricity grid maintenance, plastic waste recycling, fisheries and coastal area environmental protection, provision of clean water, solar power installation and maintenance, pesticide and fertilizer applications, agricultural machinery, and sheep breeding.
"In a protracted crisis like the one we are witnessing in Sudan, it is of utmost importance to support the young generation in developing professional skills and proving specialized training in high-demand fields to start income-generating activities, thereby stimulating local economiesโ, affirmed Morana, Head of the AICS Khartoum Office.
Italian Ambassador Michele Tommasi emphasized that โItaly plays a pivotal role in Sudan, and the Italian Cooperation continues to support the most vulnerable populations affected by the war through health, WaSH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and Community Empowerment activities. The SUD-INCA initiative represents a comprehensive effort to build a brighter future for Sudanese youth through targeted vocational training, ultimately contributing to the long-term stability and prosperity of the Countryโ.
Nuria Sanz concluded the signing ceremony by highlighting the importance of international cooperation in fostering sustainable development and resilience among Sudanese communities. Dr. Nuria Sanz stated: โUNESCO is recognized as the leading UN agency in TVET and it has a proven track record of successfully managing projects in Sudanโ. Through the CapED program, UNESCO has enhanced the organizational capacities and quality of TVET provision in Sudan since 2016. Evidence-based interventions, guided by the Sudan TVET Policy Review, have helped design strategic plans to address systemic issues and promote sustainable, inclusive growth. UNESCO's innovative vocational training and commitment to gender equality are crucial for empowering youth and women, promoting sustainable growth, and ensuring food security in a country where over 18 million people are currently facing food insecurity.
