USS Tulsa (LCS-16) sails along the Johor Strait on the afternoon of 18 March 2026, heading for the Sembawang Naval Installation, where the US Navy’s CTF 73/CLWP maintains its headquarters.

USS Tulsa is joined by USS Santa Barbara (LCS-32) at the same facility, with the latter arriving earlier in the day. Both ships previously made headlines after being sighted at the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) in Penang, Malaysia, from 14 to 16 March, despite reportedly being forward-deployed to the Middle East.

USS Tripoli (LHA-7) and USS New Orleans (LPD-18) transited the Singapore Strait westbound at dusk on 17 March 2026.

First reported by the Wall Street Journal on 13 March, the Pentagon ordered the deployment of USS Tripoli, an America-class amphibious assault ship, along with elements of the Okinawa-based 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to the Middle East. The specific operations that USS Tripoli and the MEU may undertake under CENTCOM remain unclear, as the Iran war enters its third week.

China steals the show 🇨🇳🇸🇬

It was hard to miss China’s showcase of its latest military and commercial hardware at the Official Singapore Airshow 2026.

From the welcoming static and flying displays of the COMAC C919 (which even flew on a public day), to the Bayi Aerobatic Team—who received passionate support from both local spectators and fans from home, and notably made a non-stop journey to the airshow with aerial refuelling—to the massive, eye-catching indoor exhibits featuring the J-35, drones, future airliners, and unmanned platforms.

China is steadily rising through the ranks to position itself as a viable alternative in both the aviation and defence markets. Beyond engaging trade visitors at the airshow, its public outreach efforts were clearly reciprocated with equally strong enthusiasm seen during the first day of the Weekend@Airshow.
