A child's first five years are crucial for building strong, nurturing relationships that shape lifelong development. During this period, the brain develops rapidly, with early experiences supporting language, motor and social skills.

Responsive caregivers play an important role by providing a safe and nurturing environment. By observing, understanding, and responding to children’s needs in a timely and appropriate manner, caregivers help strengthen neural connections in the developing brain and supports the development of early language, social and emotion regulation skills.

The “Everyday Moments Matter” series is produced by CHILD Centre for Holistic Initiatives for Learning and Development to support children’s holistic development.

Finding reliable and accessible infant care that fits your family’s needs just got a little easier.

The Childminding Programme for Infants (aged 2 to 18 months) connects Singaporean families with trained, home-based childminders – with government subsidies to keep fees affordable.

Through three appointed operators across Singapore, childminders care for small groups of 1 to 3 infants at a time, providing personalised attention and care for your child in a home environment. Parents can choose from flexible half-day or full-day blocks between 7am and 7pm on weekdays (excluding public holidays) – whatever works best for your family*.

Find a childminder near you at https://go.gov.sg/childmindergowhere.

*Please note that some operators may require a minimum number of childminding sessions per month. You may check directly with your preferred childminder on the arrangements available.

Educators Portal | Two Roles, Same Heart: Life as an Educator and a Mum 23/05/2026

There is something quietly remarkable about mothers who rise before dawn, prepare their children for the day, and then step into a classroom ready to care for young children.

Ms Nor Sarina Sarifi is one of them. A mother of three and Senior Preschool Educator at Iyad Perdaus Child Development at Choa Chu Kang with over a decade in the sector, she finds meaning in helping children to achieve developmental milestones and in the gratitude she receives from parents. These remind her that being an educator is not just a job – it’s a calling.

Looking ahead, Ms Sarina stays hopeful, encouraged by growing support for educators’ well-being and professional growth. Her advice to fellow educators: Take your breaks, set your boundaries, but don't stop. You are doing something remarkable.
