Today we learn the great news that all three species of thresher sharks have become fully protected in the Philippines! Can't wait to meet these marvellous creatures in December 😀
4 October 2017 marks the day that all three species thresher sharks are listed in Appendix II of CITES.
Under Philippine Republic Act 10654, this also means that these sharks are protected within Philippine waters!

Today is Shark Awareness Day! Contrary to popular belief, sharks are not bloodthirsty man-eaters. In fact, humans are a bigger threat to sharks that they are to us 😞 Sharks play a critical role in keeping the oceans healthy, and there are still so much more to learn about them. If you love sharks and you love diving, join us in our conservation efforts in Malapascua Island this December. Sign up now at tinyurl.com/reefalert2017 if you want to be a part of this FAMIREEF!! ❤️

With our coral surveys at Pulau Hantu completed, YEP Reef Alert 2016's journey is almost at its end. Do stay tuned for more updates on what we did at Pulau Hantu ;)
Next week, we will be having a private screening of “Birth of a Marine Park” by Mr. Victor Tang – a documentary about Singapore’s very first marine park, followed by a conversation on conservation with distinguished panelists Dr. Neo Mei Lin from National University of Singapore (NUS), Ms. Kathy Xu from The Dorsal Effect, and Mr. Victor Tang himself. The theme of the seminar is “promoting a destination for conservation”. Look forward to a night of meaningful discussion and interesting insights from people coming from many different walks of life.
Conservation is crucial for us to protect the only home we have – planet Earth. If you have ever wondered how you can contribute to conservation in your own little way, this seminar may shed some light on that!
