Behind every athlete is a story of resilience, ambition, and potential — some already realised, others still waiting to be unlocked.

Through CFS, the Xu Family Charity Foundation is supporting the NextGen Para Talent Programme as a co-funder. Launched by the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC), the programme identifies and nurtures promising youth athletes with disabilities, providing them with structured training, competition opportunities, and dedicated support to help them progress towards high-performance sport.

“By investing in NextGen, we seek to unlock potential early, build enduring pathways, and affirm that true inclusion creates meaningful opportunities for every athlete to fully excel,” says Mr Xu Wen You, SDSC Ambassador and Founder of the Xu Family Charity Foundation.

Mr Xu’s approach reflects a growing shift in philanthropy — one that is purposeful, forward-looking, and focused on creating opportunities that can transform lives.

At CFS, we partner donors to shape giving journeys that create meaningful, lasting impact – from advancing biodiversity to enabling inclusive sports and uplifting families in need, across causes and stages of impact.

“Some children get tutors, holidays, a stable family environment and room to make mistakes. Others struggle in an environment full of fatigue, debt and daily worry.”

Our donor Yeo Whee Jim shares a deeply personal reflection following his ALS diagnosis—on privilege, and the quiet advantages that shape life’s opportunities.

He reminds us that what we have is not just a measure of effort, but often of access. And with that comes a choice: to hold on, or to use it to create pathways for others to rise.

Moved by this belief, Whee Jim established an endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Singapore in 2025, supporting children from less privileged backgrounds and young caregivers.

His reflections echo what CFS’ Collective for a Stronger Society (CSS) seeks to achieve: a more level starting point for those who begin with less.

At the Community Foundation of Singapore, we believe philanthropy is about building the kind of society we all want to live in.

We help donors give in ways that are thoughtful, personal and lasting — connecting them to causes and communities they care about, and helping their giving respond to real needs over time.

That could mean helping a student stay in school, reducing isolation among seniors, supporting artists and athletes to pursue their potential, or strengthening charities so they can care for communities more sustainably.

From education and mental well-being to the arts, sports, the environment and social support, there is no single way to give — only many ways to care.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating a special season at CFS, as several of our colleagues have recently welcomed little ones into their lives.

Through their reflections, they share the values they hope to pass on, the kind of world they wish for their children, and the moments that have meant the most to them so far.

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone who loves, nurtures and shows up for someone else 💐

What does meaningful giving look like?

Often, it goes beyond writing a cheque. It’s about stepping into the cause, understanding the challenges, and seeing the impact of giving up close.

That’s why we partner organisations like DBS, to bring their Private Banking clients closer to the work that charities do. In a recent trip to St. Luke’s Hospital, time spent with patients and care teams offered a deeper look into rehabilitative and long-term care.

Staff presented a live exoskeleton demo, showcasing the support given to patients relearning how to walk. The group also visited thoughtfully designed spaces like the dementia ward and learnt about pet therapy programmes.

We saw how patients and caregivers are empowered through rehab gyms that simulate daily life, caregiver training, and continued support at outpatient and community facilities.

A meaningful reminder that impact goes further when we take the time to truly understand the communities we support.

Thank you DBS for journeying with us, and St Luke's Hospital - SLH for the warm sharing.

We were deeply honoured to have former President Mdm Halimah Yacob join us for our first Hari Raya gathering.

Donors, charity partners and friends came together for an afternoon that reflected what CFS is about - connection, trust and a shared commitment to giving.

Hosted by our Board Member, Tuminah Sapawi, she opened with a simple but powerful reminder:
“At CFS, we have the privilege of bringing donors, charities and partners together. And when that happens well, we see something powerful.”

That power was evident in what our CEO, Paul, shared, that the past year has been a record one for grantmaking, a reflection of the generosity and trust of our donors.

We closed on a beautiful note, with our Assistant Director, Philanthropy Advisory, Erni Nurilyana, sharing a pantun — a traditional Malay poetic form. A fitting end to an afternoon centred on connection, community and giving.

Legacy isn’t just about what we leave behind.

In the face of a life-changing diagnosis, Whee Jim made a decision not to turn inward, but to shape a legacy of love that would outlast him, inspired by his late wife and guided by the values he hopes to pass on to his daughter.

Through the Lok Yan and Whee Jim Fund, he supports children and families who need it most - because no child should have to walk alone.

If his story speaks to you, you too can be part of this legacy. Whee Jim has set up a giving.sg campaign so that anyone can support children and families who face caregiving challenges.

Giving often starts with something deeply personal.

You may have seen Ryan Lee in our recent Legacy Giving campaign. His story is shaped by the memory of his father’s quiet generosity and his own journey as a caregiver. Through that experience, he came to believe that no one should have to face caregiving or ageing alone.

Today, that belief lives on through the Lee Choi Seng Foundation, a donor-advised fund with CFS, and in the way he chooses to give.

This Sunday, Ryan will be taking on a 10km swimathon to raise funds for dementia patients at Yong-en Care Centre.

You can support Ryan in turning purpose into impact. Make a donation at https://www.giving.sg/donate/campaign/10km-for-dignity-a-marathon-swim-for-our-seniors-and-families

Wishing him strength for the swim ahead. 🏊‍♂️
