It was most touching when we saw many teary eyes among our special needs friends as we thanked them for the fantastic work they had done over the past few months journeying with us to assemble the garlands. It was our Celebration Party for the end of project & also for the many special friendships that had developed over the months.
Everyone enjoyed the delicious Bento Lunch ordered from APSN CFA Catering. Each trainee came forward to receive their personalised drawstring bags containing personalised lunch boxes, a framed picture of each trainee with the garland & treats from volunteers amidst much cheering, applause & photography. These were their proud moment of glory emphatically announced by our flamboyant MC, Priscilla.
The celebration was rounded off with the trainees taking over the mics and belting out Christmas Carols.
A most fulfilling project from beginning to end for all involved. Your encouragement & support are much needed now to buy the garlands that have been completed. Buy the beautiful fabric garland for yourself or as very meaningful Christmas gifts. Place your order at bit.ly/NewHopeGarland and it will be delivered to you.
PS Lots of photos to share the joy of the day.

Volunteers from Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel Singapore enjoyed a fun and meaningful afternoon engaging with the trainees at APSN CFA. Very nice thoughts: bottled water for volunteers & trainees; & volunteers presenting goodie bags to their trainees. Our talented trainee, Aruna, even danced for us after completing 2 garlands. We hope the great insights into the work of APSN CFA during the tour and the up close & personal interactions with the trainees will evolve into more future meaningful collaborations.
We are almost coming to the end of the project. Our trainees & volunteers have worked hard to produce many beautiful garlands ready to adorn your front doors and/or to give as gifts. Share the love, buy these garlands at bit.ly/NewHopeGarland

For 3 Mondays, staff from Havas Media Asia Pacific Pte Ltd spent an afternoon with our APSN CFA trainees to assemble garlands. These garlands were subsequently purchased by Havas as corporate gifts. What a meaningful way to bless their recipients with the beautiful garlands made by their own staff as part of their CSR program.
Thank you, Havas Media for the wonderful support.

It has been quite a few weeks since our last post but we have not stopped. We are still meeting every Monday so far. We have tried to add Thursday sessions for the past 3 weeks but the sign up has been few and far between. We need at least 7 volunteers for each session. If you can gather another 6 friends, we will be good to go! For details on the Christmas garland project, please click on this link: http://www.tinyurl.com/xmasgarland
We are also selling the completed garlands at $89 each. (See pictures below) They are perfect for Christmas. Nett proceeds go towards meeting the medical needs of baby orphans so that they will have a better chance of survival and future adoption. Everyone of us can make a difference, big or small. A big thank you in advance, beautiful people!
The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intentions.

I spoke to Nelson, the very passionate trainee‘s instructor who truly care for each trainee, what led him to this career path. He shared that it was a chance occasion during National Service (NS) when he volunteered with Very Special Arts (VSA) and found the experience very meaningful. He went on to work in MINDS for 2 years after completing his NS before moving on to the APSN Centre for Adults in 2008. It has been 14 purposeful years since. “It was definitely a calling”, he said. No beauty shines brighter than that of a BIG heart, and that’s what we saw in him.

15th Aug, Monday, was our third garland making session with APSN. We are delighted that more volunteers came forward to join us on a fun afternoon complete with a hearty meal at the centre prepared and served by the trainees. The cafe is kindly sponsored by Andes/ Astons Specialities and the trainees are guided by them as well.
Our latest Monday session lasted a little over 2 hours and 32 garlands were completed by 12 APSN trainees. Some of them are first timers and they took to the weaving process so effortlessly that some could complete 3 in a single session. They were impressive! And we were equally amazed and proud of their achievement.
Come September, we will be starting Thursday sessions in addition to our usual Monday ones so that we can accommodate more individual volunteers as well as corporate CSR activities. Do spread the word around for those who may be interested to engage with the trainees and build memories for interesting activities as such.

First day of August marks the second fruitful session of our Christmas garland project. We were very fortunate to have 14 volunteers join us on Monday. They came from all walks of life - postgraduate student, business owner, grandmother and so on. 29 garlands were assembled in less than 2 hours by 12 trainees, what a wonderful achievement.
Once again, we hope more volunteers will join us after the National Day break on Mondays. We are also opening up Thursdays when more volunteers can make time for this meaningful cause. The details of our garland project is as follow:
