What if an old building could find a whole new purpose? 🏛️

This semester, students from National University of Singapore (NUS) Master of Arts in Architectural Conservation (MAArC) got to do exactly that. They took on Jurong Town Hall as a live design project, exploring how this beloved National Monument 🏅 could be thoughtfully adapted for the future.

JTC's Urban Planning & Architectural Design team opened up archived drawings, historical records, and planning documents to support the students, and joined their reviews to offer practical, real-world feedback on their ideas.

One special moment was the final review, which was held inside Jurong Town Hall itself — a first for the programme 🎉. The project also drew interest from Kyoto Arts & Crafts University and Southeast University (Nanjing), who visited as part of their own study tours on sustainable urban development.

There's something special about seeing fresh perspectives brought to spaces like these and we look forward to even more collaborations with universities and students.

The 48th Discovering Singapore Ride brought over 70 participants through JID’s unique blend of innovation, greenery and future-ready infrastructure, from the Sky Corridor and Bulim Square to the Underground District Logistics Network (DLN). 🌿

We are proud to have supported the delivery of Chong Pang City — a key milestone for Yishun that will become a vibrant community hub for residents in the North 🎉

Recently, the project reached its topping out milestone — which marks the completion of the building’s main structure 🏗️. It’s an important step that brings the development closer to completion.

As project manager, JTC’s Building & Infrastructure Centre of Excellence (B&I CentEx) worked closely with the Singapore Land Authority - SLA, drawing on 60 years of experience in delivering public infrastructure projects across Singapore.

Scheduled for completion in 2027, Chong Pang City will bring together a wide mix of community, recreational and lifestyle amenities, including a new community club, hawker centre and market 🍜, swimming pools 🏊, fitness facilities, a rooftop sheltered jogging track, and commercial spaces.

Designed with inclusivity at its core, the development will feature barrier-free access and senior-friendly amenities ♿, so residents of all ages and abilities can enjoy the space comfortably.

It will also be the first Government integrated development to achieve the Platinum Super Low Energy (SLE) certification with four badges under the BCA Green Mark 2021 scheme 🌿. With features such as solar panels, smart lighting, and sustainable materials, it is expected to deliver up to 40% energy savings compared to conventional buildings.

We look forward to seeing Chong Pang City come to life as a thriving hub for the Yishun community 💛
