With Pride We Lead The roots of the Specialist Cadet School (SCS) began from 1966 when SAFTI was established in Pasir Laba Camp.

Then, the school was named School of Section Leaders and was responsible to train Section Leaders for the first few battalions in the Army then. The increased demand for Section Leaders due to National Service led to the rapid expansion of the school. The school was renamed to School of Infantry Section Leaders (SISL) on 1 Oct 1970. 12 years later, on 1 May 1982, the School of Infantry Section Lea

ders (SISL) officially became the Singapore Armed Forces Infantry Non-Commissioned Officers School (SAFINCOS). This was done to coincide with the expansion of the schools' role of conducting both Basic Infantry Section Leader Courses, as well as advanced courses, such as the Platoon Sergeant course, Infantry Senior NCO course and the Reserve Infantry Senior NCO course. Soon after, in 1992, SAFINCOS was renamed SISPEC.

The Specialist and Warrant Officer Institute (SWI) is the home of the WOSpecs Corps, encapsulating their core values, image, cultural heritage and pride. It consists of three Specialist Cadet Schools (SCSs), the Specialist and Warrant Officer Advanced School (SWAS) and the SAF Warrant Officer School (SAFWOS) Leadership School. SWI was established to serve two objectives:

1. To foster a greater sense of belonging and pride amongst members of the Warrant Officer and Specialist (WOSpec) Corps;

2. To increase the efficiency and effectiveness of training within the WOSpec Corps.

𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
The mission of SWI is to develop effective, dynamic and committed Warrant Officers and Specialists with a proud identity anchored on shared values and purpose. SWI’s vision is to be “Home of the Warrant Officers and Specialists. A Premier Institute Recognised World-Wide”. This vision articulates the role of SWI as a spiritual guardian of the values and heritage of the WOSpec Corps. It also expresses the aspirations of SWI to be globally recognised for the quality of its trainers, its excellent curricula, and the conduciveness of its learning environment.

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐎𝐟 𝐒𝐖𝐈
The institute was officially inaugurated on 17 Sep 2004, with the swearing-in of COL Kuek Joo Leng as its first Commander. The institute then consisted of three schools: The School of Infantry Specialists (SISPEC), the School of Infantry Weapons (SIW) and the SAF Warrant Officer School (SAFWOS). SISPEC then shifted from Pulau Tekong to Pasir Laba Camp where SIW and SAFWOS were residing, the physical proximity strengthening the spiritual link between the schools. On 13 Apr 2010, SWI was reorganised into the Specialist Cadet School (SCS), the Specialist and Warrant Officer Advanced School (SWAS) and SAF Warrant Officer School (SAFWOS). The reorganisation of SWI reflected a shift from a specialist school with a heavy emphasis on infantry training to a premier military leadership institute that develops leaders. This shift in emphasis towards leadership development was reinforced with the transfer of SWI from 9th Singapore Division to SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) on 25 Feb 2014. In 2018, SAFWOS was renamed to SAFWOS Leadership School as part of the effort to embrace the participation of Military Experts in SAFWOS’s joint courses. As the SAF undergoes a constant process of transformation, SWI will continue to oversee the development of the WOSpec Corps in line with their evolving roles and responsibilities.

Families and loved ones of the 68/2026 Foundation Term Specialist Cadets were invited to visit Pasir Laba Camp (PLC) for the Family Engagement Day.

The event started off with a brief by the Officer Commanding (OC) of the respective companies, detailing the safe and progressive training and activities the cadets would experience in the Specialist Cadet School (SCS).

This was followed by a tour of the accommodation blocks and the various heritage sites and amenities in the camp.

The Specialist and Warrant Officer Institute (SWI) was honoured to host Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Defence, during his recent visit to SAFTI Military Institute.

During the visit, Minister engaged with specialist cadets, trainers and staff, gaining insights into the rigorous and progressive training for the next generation of SAF leaders.

SWI remains committed to developing leaders of character who lead with purpose and uphold the SAF’s core values.

The 67/2025 Professional Term Specialist Cadets earned their coveted Green Berets after completing a demanding Section Proficiency Test.

The presentation was officiated by BG Fairoz bin Hassan, Chief Infantry Officer, who witnessed the cadets receiving their Green Berets.

In his address, he highlighted the crucial role the cadets will play in the SAF and the significant responsibilities they will carry as they step into leadership positions upon graduation.

Specialist Cadet School (SCS) welcomed our new cohort of Specialist Cadets for the 68/2026 Specialist Cadet Course Foundation Term.

The cadets were presented with the Junior Specialist Cadet rank by Commander SWI in a solemn ceremony at the Leaders Hall.

The cadets will now embark on the 22-week leadership journey which will develop them into resilient last-mile leaders anchored on the SAF core values.

We would like to wish the Specialist Cadets all the best in their leadership journey ahead.

The 67/2025 Infantry Professional Term Cadets underwent Close Quarters Battle (CQB) training at SAFTI City, a critical component of their preparation for combat in complex urban environments. This training involved the ex*****on of Section CQB drills, designed to simulate the high-intensity, fast-paced nature of operations in confined, urban spaces.

By engaging in realistic and dynamic drills, cadets gained invaluable experience in adapting to the challenges of urban combat—characterized by its unpredictability and complexity.

This preparation is vital for ensuring operational effectiveness in contemporary conflicts, where urban environments are increasingly becoming critical battlegrounds.

On 20 February 2026, our Specialist Cadets across the services graduated from the 66/2025 Specialist Cadet Course.

The Specialist Cadet School was excited to welcome the graduates and their families back to Pasir Laba Camp to witness this milestone.

The proud graduates are now poised to assume their roles as Third Sergeants and Military Experts in their respective units.

The six months Specialist Cadet Course equipped cadets with the leadership skills and soldiering fundamentals to lead in various operations.

Each cadet was trained not only to perform the functions of their assigned vocation but also to operate cohesively as part of the larger SAF.

The Specialist Cadet School congratulates our graduates on their successful course completion and wishes them all the best in their future endeavours.
