Abyei, October 15, 2026:
𝐇.𝐄. 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐛𝐲𝐞𝐢 𝐉𝐨𝐤, the Caretaker Chief Administrator of the Abyei Special Administrative Area, departed Abyei for Juba this morning for an official mission via Agok Airstrip and was seen off by government officials, including Cde. David Kiir Atem, the SPLM Secretary-General; Hon. Kelek Kon Lual, Security Advisor; Hon. Yohana Akol Ngor, the area Minister of Information, Communications, and Telecommunications; Hon. Dr. Ajak Makor Dhel, Minister of Health; Hon. Martin Deng Kuol, the Commissioner of Rum-amer County, Hon. John Ajang Kiir, the area administration's secretary-general; and the heads of security agencies.

H.E. Justice Charles Abyei Jok is expected to engage with government officials on issues related to the anticipated general elections in December 2026, security concerns, and governance matters with the country's leadership.

CARETAKER CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR JUSTICE CHARLES ABYEI JOK PRESIDES OVER SWEARING-IN OF ABYEI ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICIALS

ABYEI — Tuesday, October 13, 2026

The Caretaker Chief Administrator of the Abyei Special Administrative Area, H.E. Justice Charles Abyei Jok, on Tuesday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of caretaker administrative officials, including Area Advisors, Ministers, the Town Mayor, and County Commissioners, at the General Secretariat in Rumajak.

During the ceremony, H.E. Justice Charles Abyei Jok urged the newly sworn-in officials to continue carrying out their administrative responsibilities and maintain their ongoing activities in preparation for the forthcoming general elections.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring administrative continuity and preparing the necessary groundwork to facilitate the electoral process.

The ceremony was attended by SPLM Secretary Cde. David Kiir Atem, Area Police Commissioner Gen. Chol Thuc Chol, the Paramount Chief, traditional leaders, women, youth representatives, and members of civil society.

The swearing-in marks a step in the ongoing administrative arrangements within the Abyei Special Administrative Area as preparations continue for the upcoming general elections.

Abyei, Saturday, October 10, 2026 — H.E. Justice Charles Abyei Jok, Caretaker Chief Administrator of the Abyei Special Administrative Area, has returned from Juba following a formal reception by government officials, SPLM representatives, local chiefs, and community members at Agok Airstrip and throughout his transit to Abyei town, including gatherings at Abathok, Awol-Nhom, and the town center.

H.E. Justice Charles Abyei Jok was in Juba to attend his swearing-in ceremony on Friday, September 25, 2026, following the dissolution of the previous government, his appointment as the Caretaker Chief Administrator by H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, and the subsequent establishment of the caretaker government at the national, state, and administrative area levels on September 22, 2026.

Following the Caretaker Chief Administrator’s return, the swearing-in of the newly appointed caretaker administration is anticipated in the coming days.

𝐉𝐮𝐛𝐚, 𝟐 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 - Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Hon. Adut Kiir, in her capacity as Chairperson of South Sudan’s National Committee on the Abyei File and Abyei Status, convened a meeting with members of the Committee to deliberate on matters pertaining to the Abyei Area.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Committee to review key issues surrounding the Abyei File, discuss matters related to the status of Abyei, and consider the Committee’s ongoing engagement on issues affecting the area and its people.

The meeting forms part of the Committee’s continued efforts to address matters concerning Abyei through coordinated engagement and sustained deliberations.
