TRUMP TO DEPORT S. SUDANESE ON TEMPORARY PROTECTION

America has announced plans to end a Special Protection program for people from South Sudan on January 5, 2026.

The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has allowed South Sudanese living in the US to stay and work legally for more than ten years because it was "unsafe to return to home."

But the Trump administration said the situation in South Sudan has improved, noting the end of major fighting, better diplomatic relations, and the country’s promise to welcome back its citizens.

Michael Makuei's convoy carrying the body of the wife of Bishop Nathaniel Garang was on its way from Juba to Bor when it got attacked at Mapau junction.
