AFRICAN PEOPLE’S CONGRESS STATEMENT ON THE SALARY CRISIS IN NILE PETROLEUM CORPORATION

SATURDAY 1ST MARCH, 2025

African People’s Congress (APC) wishes to address the ongoing salary crisis affecting the Nile Petroleum corporation. The situation is not merely a financial issue; it is a reflection of a systemic mismanagement and a failure of leadership over the years. We hold successive managing directors and J1 accountable for their inability to steer Nile Pet toward profitability.

The Lack of strategic vision and effective management has led to a series of critical failures. E.g.

1. Failure to establish Refineries: Despite the country’s vast oil reserves, there has been no significant investment in building even medium refineries. This failure has forced South Sudan spend more money on import of petroleum products than it receives from the sale of crude oil.

2. Unprofitability of Nile Pet fueling stations across juba and this is entirely because of corruption, mismanagement and poor planning resulting in low sale leaving the company struggling to meet its financial obligations.

3. Overstaffing and Redundancy: Instead of streamlining operations to enhance efficiency, the successive management overseen a significant increase in staffing levels, including many redundant positions. This overstaffing is not only a financial burden but it also contributes to lack of accountability and performance-driven culture within the organization.

The consequences of these failures are starkly evident in the current salary crisis. Employees are left to bear the brunt of mismanagement with delay or no salary payments becoming a distressing norm. this is unacceptable!

The African People’s Congress calls for immediate reforms in Nile Pet.
We demand the following:

i. Overhaul, restructuring and streamlining of Nile Petroleum Corporation,

ii. Hiring CEO on merit and 5 years contract basis and not by decrees, delinking Nile Petroleum Corporation from J1, and

iii. Comprehensive auditing of Nile Petroleum Corporation. We believe if these reforms are put in place, Nile Pet will have serious CEO that will deliver, and make Nile Petroleum Corporation profitable.

This important government parastatal (Nile Pet) should not be turned into a cash cow and a feeding center to the malnourish children of the failed system, it should be a profitable and viable national parastatal that is capable of driving economic growth of our beloved country.

APC rejects the proposed 400% salary increment of civil servants salaries and demand 5000% salary increment.

APC calls for layoff of redundant employees from NilePet, Oil Campanies and governmental departments & agencies.

Advice government to inject these millions of dollars wasted on redundant employees in agribusiness and food processing industries. This shall not only provide genuine employment to millions of youth but also go a long way in improving our ailing economy.

South Sudan shouldn't continue to pay handsomely unpatriotic and redundant employees at the expense of more productive civil servants. All they do is sit in tea joints and gossip. Employees without job description shouldn't be entertained.

These individuals in Nile Pet continue to recieve thousands of United States Dollars and turn around and say this country isn't conducive or secure for their wives and kids and flood Kenyan and Ugandan cities looking for schools and hospitals.

If our beloved country is to prosper, we must all work here, earn here, live here, go to school here and go to hospital here. Whereever this amenities aren't nice, we should all demand for them from our government. There is no shortcut in life!
