Dear fellow South Sudanese,
"He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.' (Matthew 28:6)
Easter is the corner stone of the Christian faith. On Easter Sunday Christians celebrate God's supreme miracle of resurrection in which Jesus rose triumphantly from the darkness of the grave, death could not hold Him in the grave. This is the central hope of the Christian faith.
Although we celebrate Easter this year in an atmosphere where shouts of joy are drowned out by the cries of hunger from displaced people in camps, and by the suffering families of civil servants who have faithfully worked without salaries for several months. There is deep trauma and anxiety, as the dignity of human life is diminishing. People die on roads and in towns in numbers without accountability.
The good news of Easter is that, even though our nation goes through all these dark moments, still there is hope, Christ has conquered death and evil, and through him, new life has begun. It is ultimately life, not death that has the final word. The Lord Jesus has risen.
Easter calls us to be people of resurrection - people who live not in fear, but in hope; not in despair, but in the promise of new life, bringing hope to a hopeless world, shining light into darkness of all forms in the life of humanity and speaking life with charity where there is despair.
It is our prayer that the celebration of Easter this year will renew our faith, strengthen our fellowship, and deepen our commitment to stop violence in all forms and prioritize dialogue, forgiveness, reconciliation and actions of love to each other.
Happy Easter!
