The President of the Republic of South Sudan and the Chancellor of Universities H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, had today Inaugurated the "TRIPLE COMPLEX BUILDING" at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Bor Jonglei State.

H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit appreciated the University Administration under the wise leadership of Prof. Abraham Matoch for the great work. The President calls on the people of Jonglei State to Unite and rally behind their two able leaders, Hon. Denay Jock Chagor and his Deputy Governor Hon. Jacob Akech Dengdit, so that they will achieve their mission to bring lasting peace and poster development in the state. His Excellency the President also highlighted the Jonglei State people about the Road Map on the extension of the Revitalized Transitional period and reiterated his commitment not to take the people of South Sudan back to War again and called on the citizens to support the government.

H. E Salva Kiir Mayardit was accompanied by Hon. Eng. Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk, the Senior Presidential advisor to the President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairman of the University Board Council, Hon. Gabriel Changson Lew Chang, the minister of Higher education Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin minister of Presidential Affairs, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth Minister of Information, Communication and Technology and many senior government officials.

IF IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF R-ARCSS, Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang would be the wisest choice for Ministry of Finance and Planning or Bank Of South Sudan.

Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang is a technocrat and brilliant when it to the Monetary policy and procedure. In 2005 and 2011when Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang was acting as Minister of Finance and Planning, all civil servants and foreign missions gets their money on time and sometimes they get them on 28th before the 1st day of the month because he knows what he was doing and mostly he understands the money and the policies that comes with money.

South Sudan is in critical phase and it require someone like Gabriel Changson Chang to rescue the Nation from the totally breakdown and the decline of our National Currency (Pound).

Hon. Gabriel Changson Chang has unmatched integrity and passion when it comes to the National issues, He's political oriented and Patriot of his country. When given a chance to lead either Central Bank of South Sudan or Ministry of Finance and Planning South Sudan Pound would gain strength against US dollar.

The Minister of Higher Education has disclosed that only half of the required admission target has enrolled to public universities in the 2020-2021, with private universities capitalizing on the situation.

Minister Gabriel Changson Chang said, many students prefer joining private universities to public universities, with only 42.4 percent, an equivalent of 13,000 students applied for public universities.

“When we go to the details of this report, the reception is very low, very few students are applying for education in our country or to our universities,” he said while addressing the media on Friday.

Changson said the students are reluctant to joint the government universities due to high tuition fees.

“I hope Professor John will also try to address that with his colleagues the Vice Chancellors, the students are also resisting joining our universities because of high fees.”


He directed the Vice Chancellors of the public universities to lower tuition fees to suit the interest of students seeking admission into the public universities.

In May this year, Minister Changson requested the government to channel a portion of oil proceeds to improve the standards of higher institutions of learning in the Country.

He said this will create a conducive environment of learning for students and staff.

There are eight government-sponsored universities in South Sudan, with five currently operational while three are still at the project level.

There are also over 35 private tertiary institutions operating in South Sudan.

I would like to announce to you all that the funeral prayer of the late. Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hon. Manawa Peter will take place tomorrow on Thursday 30th June 2022 in Medan Simba (Simba Square) near Al-Giada Military Headquarters at 10:00 AM.
