SOUTH SUDAN AND ATU DISCUSS EQUITABLE TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES ON THE CONTINENT

Nairobi, Kenya - 11TH/08/2026

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, and the ATU outgoing Secretary General, Mr. John Komo, have discussed equitable communications services for the vulnerable and disabled communities on the continent.

During the meeting, Hon. Ateny Wek commended the work of the outgoing ATU Secretary General, Eng. John Komo. The Minister also expressed South Sudan’s commitment to sovereign and international obligations.

In a courtesy call, the outgoing Secretary General for Africa Telecommunications Union also introduced the newly-elected Secretary General, a Zambian, Eng. Kesiaz Mwale, who will be at the ATU secretariat for the next four years.

Africa Telecommunications Union is a continental organization responsible for rolling out I lCT infrastructure and communications systems in Africa. Many countries across the continent are signatories.

In the wake of deliberations at the Office of the Deputy Minister of ICT & PS, David Yau Yau Jongkuch, the Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, the State Minister of Information and Communication, and other members of the Innovation Centre programme paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Minister of ICT&PS to discuss how best they can partner with the National Ministry of ICT & PS to offer a digital literacy programme.

The programme is aimed at helping train government employees and organisations to switch from analogue to digital systems in managing data in both the public and private sectors as a matter of information protection development programme in the country.

The Universal Service and Access Fund (USAF) has officially welcomed its new Secretary General, Hon. Stephen G*i Gatkuoth.

The entire USAF family also acknowledges the significant contributions of the former Secretary General, Hon. Mabe Emmanuel Michael, during his four-year tenure.

USAF looks forward to achieving further progress under new leadership while building upon existing structures to achieve our legal mandates, especially the which is the prime demand of people of South Sudan at large.

Juba, Wednesday 4th, 2026 – The Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny paid a official visit to the premises of the Universal Service and Access Fund (USAF) today.

The visit aimed to familiarize himself with the workforce and the facility of the Fund, during his visit he was accompanied by senior deginataries of the Ministry, includes David Yau Yau Jongkuch, Deputy Minister of ICT& PS .Thomas Gatkuoth Nyak, the Undersecretary of the ICT sector, among other senior officials.

During the visit, the management of the Fund expressed their appreciation for the Minister's timely engagement, highlighting the commitment to enhancing communication services and equal access to communication services across the nation.
