MGCSW, UNFPA, & CHINA EMBASSY DISTRIBUTES DIGNITY KITS TO SUPPORT VULNERABLE WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SOUTH SUDAN
In a collaborative effort to promote dignity and improve the well-being of women and girls, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare (MGCSW), UNFPA, and the Embassy of China in South Sudan have jointly distributed 800 dignity kits to vulnerable women and girls.
This initiative aims to address the needs of those facing hardship and to empower them with essential items that uphold their dignity and health.
The distribution event was marked by a strong message of solidarity and commitment from all partners to continue working together towards a society where every woman and girl can live with dignity and security.
On behalf of the ministry of gender, child and social welfare, minister extends a heartfelt gratitude to UNFPA South Sudan for their unwavering support and commitment towards the well-being of women and girls in the country.
She described UNFPA partnership instrumental in advancing the ministry’s efforts to promote dignity, health, and empowerment.
She also expressed sincere appreciation to the Embassy of China for their generous support and solidarity. Stating that China’s contribution of the dignity kits will go a long way in ensuring that vulnerable women and girls have access to essential items that uphold their dignity and improve their quality of life.

MINISTER OF GENDER, CHILD AND SOCIAL WELFARE VISITS SSWSEEP SITES IN WAU
The Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare recently visited Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal, to assess ongoing activities under the South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP). The visit highlighted the progress of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and Women’s Economic Community Centers (WECCs), which are central to strengthening livelihoods and promoting gender equality in the region.
Accompanying the Minister were the representatives from the World Bank, the SSWSEEP project manager, and key implementing partners including a UN Women South Sudan, UNOPS and CARE SOUTH SUDAN.
Together, the delegation engaged with community members and project beneficiaries, gaining firsthand insights into the impact of these initiatives.
During her interactions, the Minister reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing that the ministry will continue to work with women, girls, men, children, and persons with disabilities. She underscored the importance of ensuring that empowerment programs reach all segments of society, fostering resilience and social cohesion.

MGCSW, UNDP LAUNCHES BASIC SIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING FOR FRONTLINE GBV WORKERS
The Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme - UNDP, today launched a basic sign language training for frontline GBV workers to promote inclusive support.
The program aims to improve communication with survivors, promote inclusivity, and increase sensitivity towards persons with disabilities. The training includes lessons on sign language basics, communication skills, cultural sensitivity, practical exercises, and resource materials.
Delivered through workshops by certified trainers, the initiative seeks to create a more accessible and respectful environment for all survivors, supporting broader goals of and social inclusion.

Today, 19/01/2026: The Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Nuna Rhoda expressed sincere appreciation to Her Excellency Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, for the warm reception and the fruitful meeting.
During her official courtesy visit to Her Excellency, the Minister highlighted the importance of deepening collaboration to achieve shared developmental goals.
The engagement marked the Minister’s first official visit with Her Excellency Mama Rebecca, which she described as a valuable opportunity for guidance, mentorship, and strengthening bilateral relations.
She emphasized the importance of such interactions in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation. Adding that the visit serves as a strategic step towards enhancing partnership, seeking guidance, and aligning efforts to advance and sustainable development.

MINISTER’S VISIT/INSPECTION TO SSWSEEP, SNSOP, PHYSICAL REHABILITATION AND REFERENCE CENTER & THE CONSTRUCTION SITE
Today 16th - 01- 2026, Honorable Minister Nuna Rhoda Rudolf, conducted an inspection of the Project Management Units (PMUs) overseeing the South Sudan Women, Social & Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP) and the Productive Safety Net for Social-economic Opportunities Project (SNSOP) initiatives, as well as the Physical Rehabilitation and Reference Center (PRRC) including the construction site for the ministry’s premises.
During the visit, she reviewed the progress and operational efficiency of both Project Management Units (PMUs).
She proceeded to Physical Relief and Rehabilitation Center (PRRC) to assess the ongoing project and evaluate the overall progress of the rehabilitation efforts.
The visit aimed to ensure that the center is effectively serving its intended purpose of providing relief and rehabilitation to the affected communities.
During the visit, minister was received by the center's management team and staff, who briefed her on the various ongoing activities, including training programs, health services, and community outreach initiatives.
She inspected different sections of the center, including the accommodation facilities, medical units, and training workshops.
Hon. Nuna emphasized the importance of timely and efficient ex*****on of rehabilitation project and encouraged the staff to maintain high standards of service delivery whereas, she also interacted with the beneficiaries, listening to their concerns and feedback to better understand the impact of the center’s efforts.
The inspection also included a detailed assessment of the ongoing construction site of the Ministry's new building, along Yei road. The minister observed the current construction activities, evaluated the adherence to safety protocols, and discussed upcoming project milestones with the construction team.
The visit underscores the government's commitment to ensuring transparency, progress, and the successful completion of key infrastructure projects that aim to enhance public service delivery and rehabilitation efforts.
The Minister's engagement is expected to boost morale and reinforce the importance of these projects for community development and national progress.
Furthermore, the Minister directed the relevant authorities to prioritize the sustainability of the rehabilitation efforts and ensure that the affected individuals receive continuous support.
The visit concluded with a positive outlook towards the ongoing projects offices of the South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP) and the funded by the World Bank reaffirming the government's commitment to the welfare and rehabilitation of the affected communities.
Minister expressed appreciation to the donors for their support to all the functioning ministry’s projects and also an applause to the dedicated work of the staff and she assured a continued support from the government.

MGCSW DIRECTORS BRIEF MINISTER ON SERVICE DELIVERY AND FUTURE STRATEGIES
The minister of gender, child and social welfare Hon. Nuna, was briefed by the directors of the five key directorates on the ministry’s service delivery.
The Child Welfare Directorate discussed child protection and juvenile justice programs. The Gender Equality Directorate highlighted efforts to promote women's empowerment and combat gender-based violence.
The Social Welfare Directorate outlined support programs for vulnerable populations and community outreach. The Planning, Directorate emphasized strategic planning and data-driven reforms.
The directors reported strong collaboration across departments but identified challenges such as limited resources, capacity gaps, and coordination issues.
They proposed solutions including increased funding, community engagement, training for social workers and improved data systems.

A VISIT TO THE MINISTER’S OFFICE BY MINISTRY STAFF FOR PROJECT BRIEFING
Today, a team of dedicated staff members from the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare visited minister’s office, Hon. Numa Rhoda to provide a comprehensive briefing on the ongoing project funded by the World Bank. The team, was led by the acting Undersecretary, Director of Planning and Project Managers.
The briefing session began with an overview of the Ministry’s strategic objectives and how the World Bank funding aligns with national development goals and the project managers as well presented detailed updates on each initiative, highlighting milestones achieved, challenges encountered, and plans for the next phases.
Visual aids such as charts, maps, and progress reports were used to illustrate key points vividly. The team emphasized the positive impact of the projects on local communities, infrastructure development, and economic growth.
They provided an update on the utilization of funds, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of the World Bank resources. They also discussed measures in place for monitoring and evaluation to ensure projects remain on track.

Hon. NUNA ASSUMES LEADERSHIP AS MINISTER OF GENDER, CHILD AND SOCIAL WELFARE
Today marks the official beginning of Hon. Nuna Rhoda Rudolf Ndefu's tenure as the National Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare of the Republic of South Sudan.
Following her welcoming ceremony yesterday, which was attended by government officials, party members, colleagues, traditional dance groups and media representatives, she stepped into her new role with dedication and a clear vision for the ministry’s future.
In her inaugural speech, Hon. Rhoda expressed her gratitude to President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit for the trust bestowed upon her to serve in this vital position.
She reaffirmed her commitment to public service, outlining her priorities to advance policies on gender equality, child protection, and social development.
“I'm very grateful to our President for the trust he has vested in me and to the National Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare,” she stated. She also acknowledged the support of the SPLM-IO Party interim leadership under Chairman Cde. Ambassador Stephen Par Kuol, appreciating their confidence in her capacity to serve as a national minister.
Minister assured both the President and her party leadership that she will do her best to meet their expectations and uphold the significant mandate of the ministry. She also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Minister, Hon. Aya Benjamin Libo Warille and her team for their dedicated service.

I would like to take this opportunity to first thank the Almighty God for giving me the privilege of leading this important Ministry, the Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare.
In the ministry, I have learned the invaluable importance of human life. I dealt with the most vulnerable groups of our community, and through this journey, I have come to understand that every individual deserves dignity, respect, and protection.
I leave the office with a deep sense of satisfaction and a heart full of gratitude because of our collective efforts and shared commitment.
Throughout my tenure, I have witnessed the transformative power of teamwork, social connections, and most importantly, love for the mission: the protection and promotion of human rights.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we extend our deepest condolences on the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Sebit Godfrey, who left us on the 30th of December, 2025, in Juba.
His departure has left a void that is difficult to fill, and his absence will be felt dearly by all who knew him.
Sebit Godfrey was a remarkable individual whose dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of others touched the lives of many.
His efforts within the Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare were a testament to his genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of vulnerable populations.
Through his work, Sebit demonstrated integrity, kindness, and a deep sense of responsibility that inspired those around him.
