We are thrilled to announce that the National Ministry of Health has officially signed an output agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a key step in Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP).

This pivotal agreement was signed at the Ministryโ€™s premises in Juba, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to strengthening healthcare across South Sudan.

Dr. Annin Ngot Ngot emphasized that this agreement will greatly expand access to essential health and nutrition services, enhance stewardship in the health sector, and fortify overall health system.

We express our heartfelt gratitude to the WHO for partnering with Ministry of Health in delivering the vital outputs of this agreement. Together, we are dedicating ourselves to improving health outcomes for all citizens.

Ministry of Health Inaugurates New Sub-National PHEOC in Wau, 3rd April 2025

The National Ministry of Health inaugurated a new Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, to improve regional coordination and preparedness for public health emergencies.

During the ceremony, Dr. Annin Ngot Ngot, Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Health, highlighted that the PHEOC is a proactive step to protect communities from health threats and enable responses to outbreaks and disasters. He thanks WHO and USAID for their support in establishing the centre.

Dr. Kediende Chong Mapuor, Director General of Preventive Health Services and Emergencies Response, emphasised the importance of collaboration among stakeholders for the centre's success. National and state health officials attended the ceremony.

Ministry of Health Launches Cholera Vaccination Campaign in Kuajok

Kuajok, WS, 2 April 2025 โ€”The National Ministry of Health has launched an Oral Cholera Vaccination (OCV) campaign in Kuajok, Warrap State, to combat a cholera outbreak affecting some areas. The campaign aims to reduce the spread of cholera, especially among vulnerable populations, by vaccinating thousands, focusing on high-risk groups like children and those with compromised immune systems.

The campaign will include educational programs on hygiene and safe drinking water. In collaboration with local health facilities and community leaders, the Ministry is mobilising resources to reach as many residents as possible. Community participation is encouraged to significantly reduce cholera cases and improve health outcomes in Warrap State.

Ministry of Health Conducts Comprehensive Health Facilities Training on e-IDSR in Wau

Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State, April 1, 2025โ€”The National Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Amref South Sudan, conducts a comprehensive five-day training program on the Electronic Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (e-IDSR) system. This initiative aims to enhance public health surveillance capabilities in South Sudan by equipping healthcare workers with the necessary skills to use the e-IDSR platform effectively.

The training focuses on improving the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of disease reporting across the nation. Participants will gain essential skills in gathering and analysing health data, enabling them to make informed, data-driven decisions in response to public health challenges. The program includes hands-on activities, discussions, and practical troubleshooting exercises, ensuring participants are well-prepared to implement the e-IDSR system in their health facilities.

Hon. Dr. Annin Ngot Ngot, the Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Health, highlighted the significance of training. He encouraged participants to take full advantage of this opportunity, stating, โ€œThis training is not just about learning a new system; itโ€™s about gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance your work and tackle public health challenges. I am confident that our facilitators, led by the Director General for Preventive Health Services and Emergency Response, possess the expertise needed to guide you through this learning process.โ€

These training is specifically designed for key health personnel, including State Directors for Preventive Health Services, State Surveillance Officers, County Health Directors (CHDs), County Surveillance Officers, and health facility staff, such as clinicians and data clerks. By empowering these individuals with advanced skills and knowledge, the Ministry of Health aims to establish a robust health surveillance framework, which will ultimately improve health outcomes for the South Sudanese population.

Ministry of Health Addresses Cholera Outbreak in Pibor Administrative Area

Pibor, GPAA, 29 March 2025- In light of a severe cholera outbreak in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, the National Ministry of Health has initiated a robust response to provide immediate medical assistance.

Dr. Annin Ngot Ngot, The Undersecretary of Ministry of Health, and Dr. Kediende Chong, Director General of Preventive Health Services, led a dedicated team to manage the outbreak. This rapid response team is being deployed to the hardest hit areas, particularly the towns of Kangole and Gumrok, to carry out urgent health interventions.

As part of the initial response, prior medical teams have already distributed essential supplies, including cholera treatment beds, oral rehydration solutions, and critical intravenous fluids vital for patient care. The logistical efforts are supported by a strong collaboration between local governmental entities and international organisations, highlighting a coordinated approach to tackle this public health emergency.

Dr. Kediende acknowledged the significant contributions from partners and the ASK Foundation for their support in providing aircraft and logistical resources, which have been pivotal in ensuring the swift transportation of medical supplies and personnel to the affected areas. The National Ministry of Health is dedicated to implementing effective measures to contain the outbreak, prioritising the urgent medical needs of communities. Ministry of Health Hosts Workshop to Validate Community-Based Network Integration Strategy

Juba, March 25, 2025โ€”The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with UNICEF South Sudan, is developing a Community-Based Network Integration Strategy. This initiative is part of the broader Boma Health Initiative (BHI) Strategy, which aims to enhance the integration of community networks into healthcare systems.

To aid in this development, the Ministry has enlisted the expertise of Management and Development (M&D) Consulting, which is tasked with creating a Community Networks Integration Strategy for the years 2025 to 2029. This strategy will align with the Health Sector Strategic Plan for 2023-2027.

During the workshop, the Honourable Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Health, Dr. Annin Ngot Ngot, highlighted the primary objective of validating a community-based network integration strategy. โ€œThis initiative seeks to improve healthcare delivery and overall community health services in South Sudan.โ€

Dr. Annin Ngot stressed the necessity of implementing programs that address all facets of healthcare activity, emphasising service delivery directly at the household level. The focus on access, sustainability, and quality of community health services is paramount, reinforcing the commitment to achieving universal health coverage throughout the country.

Newly Appointed Undersecretary Meets WHO Country Representative

Juba, 6th March 2025โ€”In a significant step towards enhancing cooperation in public health initiatives, the newly appointed Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Health Hon. Dr. Aniin Ngot Ngot convened an introductory meeting today with Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, the World Health Organization's country representative.

Ministry of Health and UNFPA Collaborate on 2025 Work Plan for Reproductive Health

Juba, 18 February 2025โ€”The National Ministry of Health has signed its 2025 work plan in partnership with the UNFPA, focusing on essential reproductive health activities.
Key areas include promoting family planning, addressing gender-based violence in primary healthcare, and enhancing the capacity of Health Science Institutes.

The plan, which has a financial commitment of $490,000, aims to strengthen the Ministry's health leadership.

Ministry of Health Declares Mpox Outbreak

Juba, 07 February 2025โ€”The National Ministry of Health has announced an outbreak of Mpox in the country. This decision comes after the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) confirmed it on February 6, 2025. The lab tested a sample from a 31-year-old foreign national living at Kupuri Camp in Luri Payam, Juba, who showed symptoms like fever, a rash, and itching. His symptoms began on January 22, 2025.

The individual had recently travelled to Uganda, where there has been an ongoing Mpox outbreak since 2024. The type of virus, in this case, matches the strain currently affecting East Africa.

Mpox, or monkeypox, is a viral disease that can spread from animals to humans, mainly through contact with wild animals like rodents. It can also spread between people through direct contact with rashes or fluids from an infected person or through touching contaminated items like bedding.

This gathering's primary focus is to evaluate the current status of endemicity, drug distribution, and coverage, as well as activities related to Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) across various states and counties.
