ICT Minister and Senior UNMISS Official Discuss Media Freedom and Peace in the Country

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny and the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General, HE. Anita Kiki Gbeho, have discussed important matters relating to the media freedom, peace and the upcoming elections.
The senior UNMISS official, Madam Kiki, was paying a courtesy call on the Hon. Minister, following her recent appointment as Special Representative of the Secretary General to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS.
In a statement to the media, the ICT&PS Minister Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny reaffirmed government’s commitment to the cooperation with UNMISS. He underscored that UNMISS needed to do more in terms of maintaining its relationship with South Sudan, adding that the government has demonstrated the spirit of cooperation.
On her part, the UN envoy reiterated their undying commitment to a cordial and constructive engagement with the South Sudan government and the people.

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny has commemorated the World Press Freedom Day with a call for responsible media.
The Hon. Minister spoke to participants comprising State Ministers of Information, Directors General of Information, media managers, civil society and representatives of international nongovernmental organizations at Pyramid Hotel in Juba.
He called on members of the media fraternity to ensure inclusive and credible media coverage of public affairs, adding that freedom of speech is protected by the Constitution, especially when exercised within the law. Hon. Ateny reaffirmed full cooperation with journalists and the civil society groups.

ICT MINISTER CONVENES 19TH LEADERSHIP MEETING TO ADDRESS INSTITUTIONAL MATTERS

ICT&PS senior leadership met today at the Telecom House, Gumbo, to deliberate on institutional matters.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, emphasized that coordination and cooperation are vital among institutional leaders, stressing that more cooperation is required in order to achieve higher goals of the ministry.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PAYS COURTESY TO ICT&PS MINISTER ATENY

Executive members of the South Sudan National Chamber of Commerce paid a courtesy call on the ICT Minister and discussed matters of mutual interest.
Discussions centered on digital services, the role of the Chamber of Commerce in the market as well as the need for establishment of a postal services infrastructure.
Hon. Ateny reaffirmed government’s commitment to service delivery and expressed full cooperation with the Chamber.
On his part, the Chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce, Lado Lukak Losike, said the Chamber is in the market to provide advice and suggestions on how government can address market dynamics.

ICT&PS MINISTER ATENY HONORS DISTINGUISHED MEDIA PERSONALITIES AT A DINNER

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny has honored journalists for long and distinguished service at a media dinner on Saturday.
The invite-only event drew media managers, editors, senior editors and social media personalities. Members of the diplomatic corps, government leaders and civil society groups also attended.
Speaking to attendees, Hon. Ateny said the event would become an annual gathering every year.
He commended journalists and media executives for their contributions to nation building and encouraged them to do more, particularly in the lead up to national elections.

DINNER WITH THE MEDIA: The Ministry of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services invites media managers, Senior news editors and reporters to an engagement dinner on Saturday 9th/05/2026 at Raddison Blue Hotel from 2PM to 5PM.
The Ministry advises invitees to the dinner to kindly carry their invitation cards long with accreditation cards for easy entry.
The Ministry wishes the attendees a pleasant evening as they engage and interact among themselves.

ICT&PS MINISTER ATENY CALLS FOR A CLOSER REGIONAL COOPERATION ON TECHNOLOGY

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny, has called on his East African counterparts to work closely together on new technologies. The Hon. Minister spoke today at the opening ceremony of the Connected Africa Summit in the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi.
Ministers of ICT, international partners, experts and industry leaders are gathering at this summit to discuss ways and plans of adopting the Artificial Intelligence and other technologies, aimed at spurring regional development in research and responsible use.

ICT MINISTER AND UNMISS OFFICIAL DISCUSS MATTERS OF MUTUAL COOPERATION

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Ateny Wek Ateny and UNMISS Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General, HE. Graham Maitland, have met and discussed pertinent topics relating to the cooperation between the Government of South Sudan and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, including peace, development and security.
In a statement to the media, Hon. Ateny reassured the senior UNMISS official of government efforts towards peace and security, adding that the country is readying for elections.
Meanwhile, the visiting official acknowledged the UNMISS full cooperation with the government of South Sudan.
