๐‰๐ฎ๐›๐š, ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ/๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ”/๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” โ€” Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, Hon. Adut Kiir, on Tuesday visited the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) alongside Minister of Health Hon. Luke Thompson to assess South Sudan's preparedness against the threat of Ebola.

During the visit, health officials thanked Hon. Adut Kiir for her support through the ASK Foundation, particularly during the recent cholera outbreak in Pibor, where the foundation donated critical medical supplies. They also acknowledged the contributions of UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Partners welcomed the Envoy's visit as a demonstration of government commitment and highlighted challenges facing preparedness efforts, including logistical constraints. They further called for stronger border control measures to prevent the spread of Ebola into South Sudan, noting that the latest strain is highly contagious and can initially be mistaken for diseases such as malaria.

Minister of Health Hon. Luke Thompson said President Salva Kiir Mayardit is fully aware of the Ebola threat and its implications for national security, assuring that the government will actively support preparedness efforts.

Hon. Adut Kiir reaffirmed that health remains a top priority under her special programs, emphasizing the need for civic education, public awareness, and personal responsibility in preventing disease outbreaks. She also stressed the importance of building strong institutions capable of responding to future health emergencies.

To support preparedness efforts, the Envoy donated vehicles to strengthen logistics and facilitate the transportation of medical supplies across the country.

She later toured the Infectious Diseases Unit (IDU) in Jebel, where she was briefed on the facility's readiness to manage potential Ebola cases. The Envoy commended health workers for their dedication and assured them of her continued support.

Hon. Adut Kiir concluded by calling for long-term investment in public health systems and expressed hope that South Sudan remains free of Ebola cases.

Adut Kiir, has begun delivering on a number of commitments made during her recent visit to Rumbek, with significant progress recorded in the areas of healthcare, education, and humanitarian support.

One of the major developments has been the restoration of operations at the KIIR MAYARDIT Women and Children Hospital, which had previously experienced operational challenges affecting service delivery. The hospital is now functioning with reliable electricity and continuous fuel supply for generators, while food supplies have also been provided for medical personnel working at the facility. In addition, the mortuary department has resumed operations following the installation of a solar power system, and oxygen gas donations have strengthened emergency medical response capacity within the hospital. The intervention is expected to play a critical role in reducing maternal and child mortality rates in Rumbek and surrounding communities, as the facility is now better positioned to provide timely and lifesaving care for pregnant mothers, newborns, and vulnerable patients.

Meanwhile, the Senior Envoyโ€™s education initiatives in Rumbek are also taking shape following her visit to Ager Ghum Primary School.

Construction work has commenced on four new classroom blocks aimed at expanding learning space for students. Separate computer laboratories for boys and girls are also being established and will be equipped with computers powered by solar energy to enhance access to digital learning.

The school project further includes the construction of an office and computer storage facility to support school administration and equipment management.

As part of promoting youth empowerment and talent development, sports kits for basketball, volleyball, and football have also been donated for both boys and girls.

In the humanitarian sector, Hon. Adut Kiir has continued extending support to vulnerable individuals encountered during her visit to the area.

Among the beneficiaries is a woman living with disability who was seen caring for her child while using a wheelchair. Since then, she has received multiple support visits, a new wheelchair, food supplies, and allocation of land for the planned construction of a permanent home.

Residents in Rumbek have welcomed the ongoing projects and assistance programs, describing them as meaningful interventions addressing critical community needs in healthcare, education, and social welfare.
