The first lesson of leadership is that you must lead by example, no matter how small or mundane the task may seem. Leadership is about understanding that every action, no matter how seemingly insignificant, contributes to the larger mission. You must demonstrate discipline, work ethic, and commitment at all times. Good leaders motivate others through their actions and set the tone for success.

U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Eric T. Hill, Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve commander, speaks with the commander of Coalition Forces at al-Tanf Garrison, Syria. Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve forces in Syria continue to train, advise, and assist our partner force, the Maghawir al-Thawra, in the fight to defeat ISIS and counter violent extremist organizations.

Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism. For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism and their virtue. How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes. Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being.

Muhammad al-Talah, Maghawir al-Thawra (MaT) commander, during a Key Leader Engagement at al-Tanf Garrison, Syria. During the engagement, both commanders reaffirmed the defeat Daesh partnership in southern Syria and talked about current and future operations. Coalition Forces in Syria continue to train, advise, and assist our partner force.
