" HAMA CITY " It is the provincial capital of the Hama Governorate. The city is the location of the historical city Hamath.
Hama (Arabic: حماة, Ḥamā, pronounced [ħaˈmaː]; Biblical Ḥamāth, "fortress") is a city on the banks of the Orontes River in central Syria north of Damascus. The population of Hama is 696,863: the city is the fourth-largest in Syria, behind Aleppo, Damascus, and Homs. Hama is an important agricultural and industrial center in Syria, with 3,680 square kilometres (1,420 sq mi), over a third of the gov
ernorate's area, under cultivation. The governorate produces over half of the national crop of potatoes and pistachio nuts, as well as growing a variety of other vegetables. Livestock ranching is also common in the governorate. The city proper is renowned for its 17 norias used for watering the gardens, which—it is claimed—date back to 1100 BC. Though historically used for purpose of irrigation, the norias exist today as an almost entirely aesthetic traditional show.
حماة إحدى مدن الجمهورية العربية السورية، تقع شمال غرب سوريا وهي مركز محافظة حماة، تقع على نهر العاصي ترتفع عن سطح البحر حوالي مائتين وسبعين مترا، وتقع عند خط عرض 35 وخط الطول 62، هواءها معتدل جيد، رطوبته قليلة وتتعاقب عليها الفصول الأربع كبقية البلاد السورية واجمل هذه الفصول فيها فصل الربيع حيث يعتدل المناخ والهواء وتنتعش النفوس وتزهو المناظر بالزهور والورود وتفترش الخضره السهول والجبال. وهي رابع مدينة سوريا من حيث السكان. إذ يبلع عدد سكانها حوالي (780)الف نسمة, وتبعد عن العاصمة دمشق (210كم) وعن مدينة حلب (135كم)وعن بانياس الساحلية (96كم). سكانها مسلمون وأقلية مسيحية صغيرة في حي المدينة تقدر عددها ب(10)آلاف
