THE DEPARTMENT OF TRADE, INDUSTRY, & FAIR COMPETITION OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES THE INAUGURAL NATIONAL QUALITY COUNCIL
ย
Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands โ Tuesday, 31st March 2026: The Department of Trade, Industry, & Fair Competition on Friday 27thย of March 2026, officially launched the inaugural National Quality Council. This council which comprises of members from both government institutions and key entities from the private sector, would serve as the principal advisory body for the development, implementation, and oversight of national standards, technical regulations, metrology, accreditation and conformity assessment services. The National Quality Councilโs mandate is to guide the standardization strategy, oversee implementation, and advise on quality related legislation as well as policy matters.
The inaugural meeting kicked off with an invocation, followed by remarks by the Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Finance Ms. Thomas, the Director of the Department of Trade, Industry, & Fair Competition (DTIFC) Mrs. Grant, and a key representative of CROSQ Mrs. Baptiste. All of the speakers reinforced the importance of ensuring that the National Quality Policy is placed into effect and its role in transforming the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI). The National Quality Policy is a policy that establishes the infrastructure and framework for quality and standards being implemented within the TCI. The National Quality Policy once in effect would improve trade within the TCI, strengthen consumer protection through quality and standard requirements, facilitate a greater value for money for consumers regarding goods and services, an increase in business opportunities due to a stronger alignment and positioning on the global frontier, strengthening TCI businesses regarding export readiness, along with the TCI being in full compliance with globally recognized standards. The National Quality Policy Implementation Project Kickoff was then conducted by the consultants Mesopartner. The DTIFC and its key stakeholders look forward to continuing the development of national quality policies and standards within the Turks and Caicos Islands.
