The Victoria Public Library is proud to support the Eliza Simons Primary School Free Little Library Initiative with a special book donation!

Located right in front of the school, this “Take a Book, Leave a Book” station encourages parents, students, and community members to share the joy of reading anytime at their convenience.

By working together, we are nurturing a culture of literacy and inspiring a lifelong love of books in our children. 💙

For many, Black History Month is a time to recognize, celebrate and reflect on the powerful impact Black history, heritage and culture have had on the world. Our Black brothers and sisters have made countless sacrifices so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. But how much do we truly know about these remarkable individuals?

This year’s competition aims to explore how much Primary School students understand the importance of Black History Month, with a special focus on successful Turks and Caicos Islanders.

📝 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜:
“𝐴 𝑆𝑢𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑓𝑢𝑙 𝐵𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑃𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑇𝑢𝑟𝑘𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶𝑎𝑖𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝑊ℎ𝑜 𝐼 𝐴𝑑𝑚𝑖𝑟𝑒”

📌 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬:
The competition is open to students in the 7–9 and 10–12 age groups (students must fall within these ages as of March 31, 2026).

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭:
- 7–9 years: 150–250 words
- 10–12 years: 250–400 words

Essays may be handwritten or typed and must be written in Standard English.

📍 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Essays can be dropped off at any library or emailed as an attachment to [email protected] no later than Friday, February 27, 2026.

📄 𝐄𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞:
- Student’s full name
- Age
- School name
- Guardian’s contact number and email address

🏆 A panel of judges will select a winner and two runners-up from each island.

𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚:
- Relevance to the topic,
- Organization and structure,
- Use of examples,
- Writing accuracy (spelling, grammar, punctuation),
- Creativity, cultural knowledge, and clarity.

You can even autograph your copy before submission for that personal authentic touch!
