Delegates from Chad, South Sudan, and Burkina Faso, together with the Just Transition Team, proudly represented the LDC Group at in Yeosu, Republic of Korea, last month. The team actively engaged in the 5th Just Transition Dialogue and other mandated events to advance the collective priorities of Least Developed Countries.
As the Group prepares for SB64, where Just Transition remains a key agenda item, LDCs continue to call for a strengthened Just Transition Work Programme that better responds to the needs, realities, and priorities of the most vulnerable countries.
A just transition must be equitable, inclusive, and people-centered — ensuring that no vulnerable country is left behind.

The LDC Group, represented at the 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, called for urgency in advancing climate negotiations that respond to the needs of countries on the frontline of the climate crisis. Appreciation to host Denmark, together withthe COP30 and incoming COP31 Presidencies for their leadership and engagement.

The ICJ Advisory Opinion on climate change stands as a powerful affirmation of international law, climate justice, science, the collective commitment to keep the 1.5°C goal alive, and the responsibility of states to protect people from the escalating climate crisis.

𝗔 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮!
Ambassador Adao recently addressed participants at the 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 and 𝗘𝗧𝗙 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 held in 𝗞𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗶, 𝗥𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 (𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟭–𝟭𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲) — a landmark gathering under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF).
He emphasized that technical reviews go beyond accountability — they are powerful platforms for shared learning, peer exchange, and continuous improvement in national transparency systems that drive effective climate action.
A special commendation went to four LDCs 🇲🇼 Malawi, 🇷🇼 Rwanda, 🇧🇫 Burkina Faso, and 🇳🇪 Niger — for submitting their first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) and participating in the first Regional Centralised Group Review for the LDC group. A proud first for the region!
Heartfelt thanks also to the Government of Rwanda 🇷🇼 for hosting this important session.

On 19 May 2026, H.E. Ambassador Adão Soares Barbosa, Special Envoy and Ambassador-at-Large for Climate Affairs and Chair of the LDC Group on Climate Change, was awarded the prestigious 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿-𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲 by H.E. President José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Laureate, in recognition of his dedication and outstanding contributions to the nation’s development, particularly in advancing climate change action and representing Timor-Leste on the global stage.

H.E. Ambassador Adão Soares Barbosa attended the launch of the TLAus4Resilience Program, highlighting the urgent need to accelerate climate resilience efforts in Timor-Leste.
In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized that climate change continues to severely affect vulnerable communities through floods, droughts, landslides, and food insecurity, particularly in rural and coastal areas. These impacts increasingly threaten livelihoods, infrastructure, and ecosystems across vulnerable countries, including Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Timor-Leste, underscoring the need for stronger climate action, disaster preparedness, and sustainable environmental management.
The TLAus4Resilience program reflects a shared commitment to building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for Timor-Leste.

LDC Chair, H.E. Ambassador Adão Soares Barbosa, delivered a message of support at the Regional Dialogue on Climate Financing and Just Transition in ASEAN.
In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized that vulnerable countries such as the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), including Timor-Leste, contribute the least to global emissions yet bear the greatest impacts of climate change. He underscored the critical importance of climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity building to ensure a fair and just transition.
He also reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing climate adaptation and mitigation efforts, accelerating the transition to renewable energy, and strengthening community resilience in line with the Paris Agreement goal of keeping global temperature rise below 1.5°C.
The dialogue served as an important platform for ASEAN Member States and partners to exchange experiences, strengthen cooperation, and advance collective action towards a sustainable, inclusive, and just future for the region.
