The Mobile Library is one of the Reading Room’s regular programs. It was created to bring books and learning opportunities directly to children in their own communities. Many children do not always have easy access to libraries or reading spaces, so the Mobile Library travels to them — carrying stories, knowledge, and fun activities wherever it goes.
Through this program, children enjoy reading books that spark imagination and curiosity. They also join literacy sessions that strengthen their skills in reading and writing, and take part in educational activities that make learning playful and interactive.
This year, the Mobile Library has expanded its reach, visiting municipalities such as Aileu, Covalima, Bobonaro, Viqueque, and Lautem. In each place, children gather with excitement to explore new books, take part in group activities, and discover the joy of learning together.
The Xanana Gusmão Reading Room believes that every child deserves the chance to read, learn and dream. With the Mobile Library, we are building a culture of literacy and opening doors to brighter futures across Timor-Leste.

This initiative focused particularly on engaging children through storybook reading, storytelling sessions, and educational games.
The Reading Room extends its sincere appreciation to the community of 𝐊𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐡𝐮𝐧, especially the local authorities and parents, for their warm welcome and active participation. Their support was instrumental in ensuring that children could take part in meaningful and joyful learning activities.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the Xanana Gusmão Reading Room participated the handover ceremony in Ermera. At this event, the Library was officially transferred from Global Inner Peace (GIP) to the Ermera Library, which is as the Library for Peace for Children.

It marked the beginning where the Library will serve as a place for learning, sharing and building peace in the community. The new title, Library for Peace, shows to making the Library a welcoming space for young people, families, children and everyone.

By joining this ceremony, the Xanana Gusmão Reading Room highlighted the importance of working together to strengthen education and community. This handover is a step forward for Ermera, opening doors to new opportunities for learning.

Today, the 𝐗𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐆𝐮𝐬𝐦𝐚̃𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐨𝐨𝐦 had the great pleasure of welcoming 𝐌𝐬. 𝐂𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐫-𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞.
During her visit, Ambassador Wilson explored several of our spaces, including the museum, the main library, and the Bebeteka (children’s library). One of the visit was the donation of books from the Ambassador. These new books will enrich our library collection and provide more opportunities for children and youth for reading and learning. We are very thankful for her visit and for the contribution, which will support our readers and community.
