GENERAL INFORMATION CONCERNING REGISTRATION OF A BIRTH

Registration for a baby should be done within the first three months after birth, at the nearest District Registrar’s Office to where the birth occurred.

To register your baby:
Determine the District Registrar’s Office in the area where your baby was born or go to the nearest public hospital in the area of birth.

San Fernando General Hospital
Port of Spain General Hospital
Hope Maternity Hospital

Sangre Grande County Hospital
Show up with ALL required documents, ORIGINAL AND A COPY OF EACH.

National ID Cards of the parents
Birth Notification Card issued by the hospital or medical centre
Marriage certificate of the parents.
Electronic Birth Certificates of the parents.
If parents were not married before the birth of the baby, both parents will be required at registration, if the father’s name is to be included. Only one parent needs to go if parents were married before the birth of the baby.

Once the baby is registered you will be given two documents. One document is for use to obtain the birth certificate and the other document is for use at the Health Centre.

It is important to let your will be done other than have someone elses will replace YOUR will.
