Tip Tuesday✏

Exams are not just about what you know, but also how you approach each question.

Take your time to read carefully, manage your time wisely and show your working where necessary. Before handing in your paper, use any time left to check your answers.

A little preparation and a few careful habits can make a difference. Add these to your exam survival checklist!📝

🎙️ THE VOICE REMAINS | Remembering Brother Valentino (1941–2026)

“Life is a stage.”

For decades, Brother Valentino used that stage to do far more than entertain. He questioned, challenged, educated and gave voice to the experiences of ordinary people.

Known as “The People's Calypsonian”, Brother Valentino made Trinidad and Tobago his home, including the community of Sangre Grande.

His compositions were more than songs. They were reflections of society, records of history and reminders of the power of music to inspire thought and change.

From “Life Is a Stage” to “Stay Up Zimbabwe”, his work reminds us that calypso is also poetry, storytelling and an important part of our cultural heritage.

As we observe Calypso History Month, the Manzanilla Secondary School Library Media Centre (MSSLMC) joins the nation in honouring his life and legacy.

🎙️ SHARE YOUR MEMORIES | HELP US PRESERVE HIS LEGACY

A cultural legacy lives not only through music, but also through the memories of those whose lives it touched.

Did you ever meet Brother Valentino? Attend one of his performances? Grow up listening to his calypsos? Perhaps there is a particular song, lyric or moment that has stayed with you over the years.

We invite everyone to share their memories, personal stories and favourite songs in the comments.

Together, let us create a collection of memories that celebrates his life, honours his contributions and keeps his legacy alive for generations to come.

🕊️ Rest in peace, Brother Valentino.

The voice may be silent, but the message remains.

🍎✨ A TEACHER IS... 💗

“Someone who helps you believe you can do things you once thought were impossible.”

In celebration of World Teachers’ Day, observed earlier this month, two talented members of the Manzanilla Secondary School Library Media Centre (MSSLMC) Writer’s Club joined their creative voices to pay tribute to the people who teach, guide, and inspire us.

✍️ MEET THE WRITER: KAYLIA LUCAS (3-CENTRAL)
Through thoughtful words and imaginative comparisons, Kaylia explores what teachers mean to her, from a lighthouse guiding the lost to a symbol of hope for the future.

🎨 MEET THE ARTIST: GENESIS CHARLES (3-EAST)
Bringing Kaylia’s words to life, Genesis offers her own colourful and playful artistic interpretations, reminding us that creativity can take many forms.

Together, their work forms “The Teacher Appreciation Gallery”, a celebration of teachers through the eyes of a young writer and the hands of a young artist.

To all our teachers, thank you for the lessons, the patience, the encouragement, and most importantly, for helping students believe in themselves.

💬 Which of the six interpretations speaks to you the most?

GROUP PROJECT SURVIVAL GUIDE

Every group project has a story...

The organiser. The quiet genius. The last-minute hero. And that one person who suddenly reappears when it's time to present.

But group work doesn't have to be a disaster!

Here are five ways to make your next group project a success:

✅ Assign responsibilities early.
✅ Set realistic deadlines.
✅ Keep communicating.
✅ Respect everyone's ideas.
✅ Do your fair share!

Remember, teamwork isn't about one person doing everything. It's about everyone contributing towards a shared goal.

STUDENTS, YOUR TURN!

What's the BIGGEST challenge you've ever faced during a group project?

Did you Know?

Cows can have best friends too! 🐮 Just like humans, cows tend to form close bonds with certain members of their herd. Research has found that cows experience less stress when they are near their preferred companions.

So, the next time you think about friendship, remember that even cows have their favourite company!

Friendship really does come in all shapes and sizes!🐄

Happy World Food Day!🌍🍅

Food nourishes us, brings people together and connects us to our cultures. Today, let's appreciate the people who bring food to our tables, reduce food waste and remember that everyone deserves access to nutritious meals.

Fun Facts:
- Honey can last for thousands of years when properly sealed and stored.
- Pure salt doesn't expire.
- Vanilla comes from an orchid.
- Nutmeg and mace come from the same fruit!

💜✨GIRLS MOVE, GIRLS LEAD!

Move with confidence. Lead with purpose. Believe in your future.

In recognition of International Day of the Girl Child 2026, the Manzanilla Secondary School Library Media Centre (MSSLMC) hosted “Girls Move, Girls Lead” on Monday, October 12, 2026, bringing together 40 Form 2 girls for an engaging programme centred on confidence, leadership, teamwork, and personal growth.

💜 REAL TALK – GIRLS, GOALS & THE FUTURE
Ms. Abigail Joseph engaged students in a motivational discussion exploring the meaning of confidence, self-belief, and the importance of recognising their individual strengths.

💪 LET'S MOVE! – FITNESS SESSION
Ms. Michelle Carew got our girls moving through an energetic fitness session that encouraged physical activity, participation, and fun.

🏆 LEAD THE ROOM
Ms. Lesley-Ann Henderson facilitated an interactive session of fun, games and team challenges, encouraging students to participate, work together and demonstrate leadership. Congratulations to our voucher winners!

Beyond the activities, the programme provided a meaningful opportunity for our girls to connect, express themselves, recognise their strengths and reflect on their potential.

In keeping with the 2026 theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” the initiative reinforced the importance of creating supportive environments where girls can learn, grow, make informed choices and pursue their aspirations.

💜 WE MOVE. WE LEAD. WE BELIEVE IN OUR FUTURE!

🚀 HOUSTON, WE'VE GOT A REVOLUTION!

WORLD SPACE WEEK 2026 | OCTOBER 4–10

Last week, the world celebrated World Space Week 2026 under the theme **“Rocket Revolution,”** highlighting the remarkable innovations transforming humanity's access to space.

From reusable rockets and commercial space companies to university-led projects and emerging space programmes, the way we explore beyond Earth is changing!

🌌 But did you know why World Space Week is observed from October 4–10?

🛰️ October 4, 1957: The launch of Sputnik 1, the world's first artificial Earth satellite, marked the beginning of the Space Age.

🌍 October 10, 1967: The Outer Space Treaty entered into force, establishing principles for the peaceful exploration and use of outer space.

Nearly seven decades after Sputnik 1, rockets are no longer simply designed to launch into space. Some can now return to Earth and be used again, opening new possibilities for scientific discovery and exploration.

💭 FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If you could send a spacecraft anywhere in our solar system, where would you send it, and what would you hope to discover?

The possibilities are out of this world! 🚀

WORLD SIGHT DAY

Think about how much you use your eyes before the school day is even over.
You read the board.
You write.
You use a computer or phone.
You recognise faces.
You navigate your surroundings.

You read books, complete assignments, play sports and take in the world around you. We depend on our vision so constantly that it can be easy to forget just how important eye health really is.

World Sight Day is an opportunity to change that by encouraging greater awareness of vision and the simple steps we can take to care for our eyes.
Regular eye checks, taking breaks from screens, using good lighting when reading or studying, protecting our eyes from harmful sunlight, and paying attention to changes in our vision can all form part of good eye-care habits.
And here at the library, we have another reason to appreciate those two hardworking eyes of ours...

They help us READ!
So today, give your eyes a little credit and remember to take care of the pair that helps you learn, explore, and see the world every single day.

Happy World Sight Day from MSSLMC!
