The Honorable Hamoa Holona, Minister for Sport, together with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, the Director of Education, and senior government officials, warmly welcomed Australia's Governor-General, Her Excellency the Honorable Samantha Mostyn, to Nauti Primary School.
Her Excellency and her delegation were greeted with a vibrant display of Tuvaluan culture, including the traditional Nauti welcoming ceremonial chant, "Te Manini...", and had the opportunity to witness the school's preparations and activities.
In his welcoming remarks, Honourable Minister Holona described the visit as a truly significant and historic occasion that resonates deeply across Tuvalu's nine islands. He noted that the presence of Her Excellency and her delegation at Nauti Primary School stands as a powerful and cherished symbol of the strong, enduring, and close relationship between Tuvalu and the Commonwealth of Australia.
The Minister extended his warmest appreciation to the Australian Government for its generous donation of essential school equipment, highlighting its valuable contribution to the education sector. He also acknowledged the significance of the gathering, which marked the official launch of the Tuvalu National Sport Policy 2026โ2030, a landmark framework that will guide the future development of sport across the nation.
Honourable Minister Holona conveyed the heartfelt gratitude of Tuvalu's young athletes, sporting communities, and the Ministry for the substantial support provided through the Australian Volunteers Program in the formulation of the National Sport Policy. He emphasized that the policy reflects a shared vision for strengthening participation, governance, and opportunities in sport throughout the country.
Highlighting one of the policy's four strategic pillars, the Minister announced that a key milestone under the new framework is the Government of Tuvalu's firm commitment to upgrading and developing the National Sports Ground, a project expected to enhance sporting opportunities and facilities for future generations.
In concluding his remarks, Honorable Minister Holona expressed his deep appreciation for Her Excellency's commitment to the children and youth of Tuvalu. As always, Nauti Primary School has demonstrated its strong sense of pride, teamwork, and commitment to excellence in preparation for the official visit of the Governor-General of Australia and her delegation.
In the days leading up to the visit, students and staff came together in a remarkable community effort to ensure the school grounds were presented at their very best. Classrooms, walkways, and playing fields received a major clean-up, reflecting the school's dedication to maintaining a welcoming and inspiring learning environment.
Adding a special cultural touch to the preparations, students from the TVSD programme showcased their creativity and artistic talents by producing beautiful traditional paintings on canvas. Their work highlighted Tuvaluโs rich cultural heritage and brought color and character to the school surroundings.
Teachers also contributed their skills and expertise, undertaking painting and maintenance works to enhance school facilities and create an even more vibrant atmosphere for visitors. Their dedication and hard work were evident throughout the campus.
The collective effort of students, teachers, and staff not only transformed the school grounds but also demonstrated the spirit of unity, pride, and hospitality that Nauti Primary School is known for. Hon Minister of Sport and his delegation travelled to Darwin to support Team Tuvalu, witness the championship, and build strong networks for the future development of sport in the country. The Tuvalu Athletics Association acknowledges the presence of the Hon Minister and expresses its sincere appreciation for the financial support provided by the Ministry.

The second panel discussion for today focuses on a critical question: How can LDCs unlock the full potential of their populations by ensuring no one is left behind?
Under the theme โPromoting inclusive growth: unleashing the potential of youth, gender equality and marginalized groups,โ speakers and panelists shared practical insights and experiences on advancing more equitable development pathways.
Our Youth Manager (Ms. Taotao Lagafaoa Manuao) had the opportunity to speak on the question that focus on how national youth and education policies be translated into inclusive skills and employment opportunities that genuinely reach young women and marginalised youth, including those in remote and outer island communities.

The event was presided over by the Deputy Prime Minister and the Acting Minister for Education, Honorable Panapasi Nelesone, who graciously unveiled the program to an audience of educators, stakeholders, and community members.

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Economic Development, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Honourable Panapasi Nelesone held a brief meeting this morning with Mr. Florian Rabenstein, GPE Team Lead, and Ms. Aisling Falconer at the VIP Cabinet Room, TPCC.
