Russia loves to portray its military as “invincible.”

Since 2014, Ukraine has exposed Russia to be more of a paper bear, and in recent months managed to stall its battlefield progress.

Discover three long running myths behind Russia’s “invincible” image:

📌 Myth 1: Russia is an unstoppable military force

📌 Myth 2: Russian firepower is so powerful and terrifying that fighting it is pointless

📌 Myth 3: Ukraine and its allies have already lost the war

On the night of June 2, Russia launched another large-scale attack against Ukraine.

In Kyiv, Russian attack killed four people and injured at least 58, including three children. The strikes damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure across several districts of the capital. A nine-storey residential building was hit, causing the partial collapse of its upper floors. Emergency services continue to search the rubble as people may still be trapped underneath.

In the Dnipro region, seven people were killed and 35 injured in Russian attacks on residential areas in Dnipro and Kamianske. Among them are 3 kids. During rescue operations following the initial strike, Russia launched a second attack that killed a rescuer. Search and rescue operations continue.

In the Kharkiv region, Russian attack injured at least 14 people, including a child. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged in several communities across the region.

In the Chernihiv region, a 15-year-old boy was injured. Among the damaged facilities are warehouses, a school and private homes.

Russia continues to wage war against civilians. More pressure on the aggressor, stronger sanctions, and more support for Ukraine’s air defence are needed to save lives

🌍 On May 25, the Youth Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, with the support of the Department of Africa and Regional African Organizations of the MFA, organized an international online dialogue between Ukrainian youth and representatives of national youth councils from African countries dedicated to the implementation of the global Youth, Peace and Security agenda.

The event became a unique platform for direct dialogue between Ukraine and countries of the African continent. Participants discussed practical mechanisms for implementing the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250, institutional youth participation in security processes, the role of youth councils in shaping public policy, and responses to contemporary global challenges — from hybrid threats to digital disinformation.

Representatives of youth councils and civil society from various African countries joined the discussion, including:
▫️ Millicent Sethaile — Board Chair of the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC);
▫️ Alhafiz Hassan Ahamat — youth activist, Secretary-General of Action Pour la Solidarité et le Soutien aux Couches Vulnérables, and Country Director of Global Peace Chain in Chad;
▫️ Opembe M. Amuko — Chairman of the Informed Ballot Movement (IBM).

The event marked an important step toward strengthening Ukraine’s partnership with African countries and opened new opportunities for international youth cooperation in the field of peace and security.

The United Nations has, for the first time, included Russian armed and security forces in its annual list of parties credibly suspected of patterns of conflict-related sexual violence.

The decision, announced in the latest report of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, is an important acknowledgement of crimes committed against Ukrainian prisoners of war, civilian detainees, and other victims during Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“Today’s inclusion is a crucial step on the painful road to truth and accountability. For years, Ukrainian women, men, and children have endured horrific acts of sexual violence as part of Russia’s war,” Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has noted.

“Concrete action must follow. Accountability for criminals. EU and G7 travel bans for Russian combatants. Isolation for Moscow: with such horrific crimes in its “portfolio” Russia should be kicked out from every community – ranging from major sports events to international organisations.”

At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and in cooperation with the European External Action Service, eleven journalists from leading media outlets in Benin 🇧🇯, Cameroon 🇨🇲, Côte d’Ivoire 🇨🇮, the Democratic Republic of the Congo 🇨🇩, Mauritania 🇲🇷, Senegal 🇸🇳 and Togo 🇹🇬 visited Ukraine and Moldova as part of a press tour from May 11 to 16, 2026.

This was the ninth such press tour organised as part of the MFA of Ukraine’s systematic engagement with media from Africa and Latin America under the communication strategies “Ukraine – African Countries” and “Ukraine – Latin America and the Caribbean”.

The press tour aimed to provide African audiences with first-hand and fact-based reporting on developments in Ukraine, while also strengthening cooperation between African journalists and Ukrainian governmental, expert and civil society stakeholders in countering disinformation.

On the night of May 14, the journalists witnessed a massive Russian attack on Kyiv that killed 24 people and injured another 48. They visited the site of the strike and spoke with the Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Andrii Danyk.

During the programme in Ukraine, participants discussed the global consequences of Russia’s aggression, food security, humanitarian demining, and the impact of the war on Ukraine’s economy and society. Particular attention was devoted to Russian disinformation and foreign interference, Russia’s recruitment of African citizens for the war against Ukraine, human rights violations and war crimes committed in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The programme also included meetings focused on Ukraine’s cultural resilience, the history and temporary occupation of Crimea, rehabilitation and recovery initiatives, and the work of Ukrainian media under wartime conditions.
In Chișinău, Moldova, the journalists took part in a programme organised by the Centre for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation focused on the impact of Russian hybrid threats, disinformation and foreign interference.

The media visit to Ukraine was organised within the EU–Ukraine Strategic Communications Capacity Building Initiative.

Russia’s losses in its war against Ukraine have already exceeded 1.3 million killed and wounded. For any normal country, such figures would be a political shock and a reason to reassess. But not for Russia. No level of casualties seems to act as a limit for the Kremlin, which continues to disregard human life.

This is why the world cannot wait for Russia to stop on its own. It must be forced to stop. Only strong, united international actions – political, military, and economic – can change its course. Over more than four years of its full-scale war, Russia has failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives. It is time to increase pressure on Russia to stop its aggression.

Today, we honour the warriors of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – those who carry out the most difficult missions every day, where a cool head, maximum focus, and readiness to act in the most dangerous conditions are crucial.

SOF warriors operate deep behind enemy lines, conduct reconnaissance, destroy critical targets, and create advantages for Ukrainian forces.

Honour to the defenders who gave their lives defending the independence of our state. We thank each and every one who continues to protect the freedom of Ukraine and all of Europe.

Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦
