It is with profound sorrow that we received the news of the passing of our beloved Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Dr. Wilberforce Kisamba-Mugerwa.

Dr. Kisamba-Mugerwa joined The Microfinance Support Centre Ltd in February 2018, having been appointed to the position by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. He was passionate about the socio-economic transformation of the rural poor, and dedicated much of his career to programs and projects that aimed at enhancing household incomes and creating employment, especially for the women, youth and persons living with disabilities.

At the time of his death, Dr. Kisamba-Mugerwa was actively serving as the Chairperson of the MSC Board of Directors.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and close friends. May the Soul of our Beloved Father and Mentor Rest in Eternal Peace.

NB: A full tribute will be published in the local dailies and will be posted here as well.

We may not be the Vision Bearers but we are happy to be part of their story through extension of affordable financial support. Our client, Kiiza Deo Furniture, has an inspirational story to tell about his journey to success; but more than that, he trains hundreds of youth in carpentry free of charge. He also employs a few that exceed expectations.

We are proud of him because of his determination to produce furniture of superior quality. He challenges the cliche that Ugandan made products are of poor quality and brings to life the Buy Uganda Build Uganda policy.

His workshop and showroom are located in Seguku, off the turning to Nican Resort Hotel.

We have excavated a total of 45 valley dams in Nakaseke District in an effort to address climate-related risks brought about by climate variability and climate change. Nakaseke is among 33 districts found within the cattle corridor, dominated by pastoral communities that heavily depend on water for livestock and crop farming.

Through the valley dam excavation project, we aim to enable communities increase milk and meat production, productivity and household income. We also aim at curbing disease spread as movement is restricted to individual farms.

The success of the project will inform replication in other districts along the cattle corridor over the next few years.

This project would not be possible without support from the Islamic Development Bank Group - isdb.org and Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda.

Just before the lockdown brought about the Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the State Minister for Microfinance, Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, had launched the Presidential Initiative on Wealth Creation aka Emyooga in the Northern and Eastern regions of the country.

As was from the beginning, a team from The Microfinance Support Centre Ltd has been working with the Minister and his team, and this week the initiative is being launched in the Western region. Unlike the period before Covid-19, this time the team has to carry on the assignment, observing the Standard Operating Procedures as laid out by the Ministry of Health- Uganda.

Emyooga is one of several wealth creation initiatives launched by H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni aimed at increasing household incomes of the economically active poor. While its goal is the same, its approach is different. Emyooga targets 18 specialized micro-enterprises that are well organized in groups. For instance an association of welders or mechanics stands to benefit from the program as it is among the target bracket.

For more information about the program, kindly contact The Microfinance Support Centre Ltd, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda or your regional Resident District Commissioners (RDCs).
