The IRA CEO, Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega: "Today marks a significant milestone in the continuous growth and transformation of Uganda’s insurance sector. Our goal is to empower individuals, families and businesses to thrive without financial worry regardless of income level. While the industry has grown steadily, many Ugandans still mistrust or don't fully understand insurance. That is why insurance literacy is essential to help people make informed decisions about their financial futures. Insurance must go beyond coverage, and drive awareness, strengthen partnerships, and expand access, especially for under-served rural communities.

This was during the launch of Insurance Literacy & Market Development Agenda (ILMDA) earlier today at Mestil Hotel, Kampala

Delivering the Keynote address, the Guest of Honor, the IRA CEO,
Alhaj Dr. Ibrahim Kaddunabbi emphasized that Hon. Ssebaana was not only a politician but also a nation builder.

From founding Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO), to steering the Democratic Party and strengthening institutions like Mutesa 1 Royal University, his vision for resilient governance and sustainable business continues to guide Uganda today.

Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, IRA CEO at the Hon.John Ssebaana Kizito memorial lecture: Insurance is often seen merely as a safety net, but it is much more than that—it is an enabler of growth. No business can thrive sustainably if it is constantly vulnerable to risks—be they physical, financial, or environmental. The insurance industry recorded a positive half-year growth in total Gross Written Premium of UGX 1.06 billion, compared to UGX 933.76 billion recorded in a similar period in 2024, representing an 8.78% growth in premiums. This represents 56.7% of the total premiums collected over the whole year in 2024 (i.e. 1.79 billion). The positive growth reflects increased resilience and diversity in terms of regulated entities and market coverage.

The IRA CEO, Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega urged Insurers to ensure they look for all reasons to pay claims, instead of reasons not to, because insurance exists to pay claims when they arise.

Ms. Rita Namakiika Nangono, the Chairperson of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal urged insurers to use language that is easily understood by the clients to mitigate disputes during the claims process. This was during the 65th CEOs Breakfast meeting earlier today at Serena Hotel Kampala.
